Explorer auto dimming mirror wiring
So,I am thinking about finally finishing up the wiring on my overhead console, and thought about doing the auto dimming rear view mirror while I am up there. I love it in my parents Lincoln, so why not in the danger. However, I can't find the article about wiring it up. I only want the dimming feature, don't need the auto head light (its annoying). Any help is thanks.

How come you think the auto head light is annoying? I just bought the auto dimming mirror off ebay and waiting for that junk to get here so I can have it do that. I believe that you can wire it up with the auto headlight but than on the mirror itself just turn off that feature. I haven't seen any wiring diagrams for it without the auto headlamps but ill look around for it.

There is one on here somewhere, its the original one that I wrote and then N3ELZ added some improvments to it. I cant find it now so here is the link to the 1st one that I wrote.
Its the same as the one on here, John just changed some wording in it.

BTW, If you dont want the auto headlights just completely skip the part dealing with the relays and cutting into the headlight switch. All you have to do is add power and ground to the mirror. I do agree though that this is almost the point of the mirror, I think the dimming feature is secondary. And yes you can disable the auto lamp feature on the mirror.

I just installed and wired up mine about 2 weeks ago, without the auto headlamps (not sure I want my headlights to turn on by themselfs, maybe later, heh).
Basically, take the Green/Yellow (12 Volt Constant), Red/White (12 Volt Switched) and Black (Ground) wires, tap them into the constant and switched circuits of the dome light, and you're good to go.
Hope that helped!

In addition to power and ground, there is one more wire available for the autodimming feature. It is not absolutely necessary for the mirror to function but I find it useful sometimes.
The mirror's black/pink wire taps into the truck's backup light circuit (also BK/PK) to turn the autodimming feature off when the transmission is in reverse. This is useful for backing up when a bright light behind the truck would have triggered the electroluminescent dimming. The reverse input overrides the dimming command, putting the mirror in the undimmed mode.

Well, I got my miiror off ebay, has about four feet of wiring hooked onto it. I was thinking if some one could post a picture of what the wiring up through that square tube into the head liner, can't really figure it out. I think I will wiring it up completely. I got spring break coming up and will have a few days off from work to tear my truck apart. THanks
