engine swap
I got the 99 ranger with the 3L v6 and the 5 speed manual, would it survive if I swapped the engine to the ford boss 302 mustang engine, I'd most likely pay someone to do it right, I'm good with engines but I dont think i can do it on my own. would I have to do anything else so the truck wouldn't shred itself? my dad was the one that recommended that engine and he said the trans should be fine.

I don't know what rear end you have, but I'd imagine that would be a weak link. Once you have addressed the rear end, you probably will want to do something to increase traction. Otherwise, you will literally be "spinning your wheels". Unless of course that is what your are wanting to do, smoky burn outs and spending lots of time with the *** end of your truck pitched sideways. Sounds like a fun project though! I wish I had the $ to afford a Coyote, or maybe a 12V Cummins. Instead, I just bought a supercharged SOHC 4L to put in my 99 Xcab 4x4. If you change your mind and want something that you can actually put in yourself, that might be an option for you. Modbox, makes supercharger kits for the 4L. Either road you take, keep modding, bc "stock sucks"!

1999 Ranger would be fine with V8 Power, Ford even built a few prototypes
But no on the transmission working, it won't bolt to V8 engine, you need the M5OD-R2 from a 1997-2003 Ford F-150 that had the 4.2l V6 engine, that engine had same bolt pattern as the 302 V8
Those years also have shifter in the same place as current Ranger shifter, so perfect fit
If you want fuel injection then best/least expensive option is getting a whole 1996-2001 V8 Ford Explorer it will come with all the parts you need for the swap, the bits and pieces add up so getting the whole vehicle cuts down on the cost
This article shows whats involved in this type of swap: https://www.therangerstation.com/Mag..._v8_swap.shtml
1999 and 2000 Rangers are the same
Going with a Carb and distributor 302 V8 is less work
