Edge Package vs. Fx4 Package
Hello, I searched the forums and google but couldn't really find a comparison.
I know that the Fx4 has a better suspension and 4x4 stock, but I don't know that much about the Edge's. If anyone would mind helping me figure out what some key differences are that would be greatly appreciated. I am looking at 4th gen's currently, IE 01-07.

only thing different suspension wise are the shocks. that's it. I'd lay out all the differences, but i'm off to work.
EDGE = painted bumpers and flares, vinyl flooring inside
Fx4.....Have you searched Fx4 LevelII versus Fx4 Off Road? There's two different Fx4 models, and each have their own stuff. Both those models have textured grey/black flares and valences, chrome bumpers, carpet. Fx4 Level 2 w/ manual transmissions have a chrome shifter arm, and if it's a 02-03 Fx4 w/ a manual you geta manual transfer case. There's subtle interior differences too that i won't go into.
Now you want a ranger again?

I've wanted a Ranger since the moment I joined the forum, but I also have a backup plan(The F150) in case I cannot find the right one. Lately I've been looking and the forum is home to some of the cleanest 4th gen's I've seen, and I've always loved the body style, mainly the front bumper. My dad says that once my grandma takes care of some private matters, that I'm more then welcome to ask her for the money, and pay her back once I have a steady job. So in the meantime, I want to find the most information on Rangers I can possibly get.

I have an Edge Plus and it's 4x4 . Mine has the LSD rear, 4.10 gears, power everything, tow hooks, hitch, etc.. The main differences are that FX4s come with Bilstein shocks and Edges don't. The FX4 has a Torsen LSD rear and my Edge has some other stock LSD. The difference there is that the Torsen, while better going forward does not work in reverse as I understand it. My LSD works in reverse also.I like that feature better a lot.

So Edge is basically looks, whereas Fx4 is performance? I found a post on Fx4 vs. LII's on RPS...which I've been looking over for the last few minutes.

FX4 is the super duper offroad package (4x4).

Ok....here's the gist of it....
There's TWO models of FX4 out there. You must specify which model in which you are looking at. BOTH are XLT 4x4 trucks. BOTH have 4.0's and 4.10:1 gearing and 8.8s out back. BOTH are xcabs, chrome bumpers, black textured flares and valence. '02 Fx4 = '03-07ish Fx4 LevelII. '02 4x4 Off Road = '03-07ish Fx4 Off Road. Those differences can be found elsewhere. BUT...Fx4 level 2 has a Torsen gear driven limited slip, where as the regular Fx4 has an Trac-loc clutch driven limited slip, same option for a 4x4 edge or regular 4x4 xlt. Level2/LevelII what have you....it the top of the line Ranger model.
There is NO difference in suspension between the Edge 4x4 and the Xlt 4x4 and the Fx4......only difference is the shocks on the Fx4 Level 2's. IF it's a xcab 4.0 4x4, it likely has either #1 or B front bars, and C or K rear leafs. only real differnce.
Edges are a 'step down' from an Fx4/Xlt 4x4. Painted front and rear bumpers and valence, painted flares(if styleside), vinyl flooring, base door panels(ugly imo) if not equipped with the power options, standard 3.0L, optional 4.0L, some with 7.5's and some with 8.8's, standard cab or xcab. LOTS of options on the EDGE. Not many on the Fx4's.
Let me shorten it up...
KEY DIFFERENCES:
Edge: Body colored bumpers and flares. Vinyl Floor, basic door panels if not power equipped. 3.73 or 4.10 axle ratios. Optional limited slip(trac-loc)
Fx4: Chrome bumpers and black textured flares and valence Upgraded interior. Rear limited slip. Standard limited slip(torsen on the Level2 models, trac-loc on the Fx4OR pkg). Standard power equipment group. Standard cruise and tilt leather wheel.
Fx4level2...Top of the line model of ranger.

no that's a normal L/S, the torsen is closer to a real locker. it actually sends power to the one on the ground

Right now, if it were '03, i'd be all about it. Two sticks out the floor, best looking one of them all(int and ext). and who really pays MSRP anyway? My little brothers truck's MSRP was about 14k.....we drove away with it brand new '01 in '01 for $8888.

Totally understandable but my buddy's 96 Splash had been paid off for several years and would still be driving it if a woman too busy on the cell phone to notice the red light hadn't ended it's run. I had thought bout getting an FX4 but 1) I didn't wanna pay that much and 2) I want a regular cab and 3) i love how the flares look on the Sports
Melt.....you sure he wasn't talking about the older ones and not the newer ones ? I know the ones before 05 weren't hitting on much but the new ones are awesome IMO
