WD-40 doesn't work well for this, it drys out and attracts dirt. Use some brake cleaner to clean the latch out. Dry it with air or time. Then use a silicone spray. It works far better.

My passenger side rear drum brake seizes up every few months and makes that horrible worn disc brake squeak, if I let it go to long it go too long it seizes completely and locks the brake. I've replaced all the hardware once already. I think it's the master cylinder. Oh well, easier to take it all apart and rebuild it every month than replace the whole deal.

thats normal, the p1000 code appears after the codes are cleared you may never get rid of it, ive seen vehicles with 100,000 miles that still has that code, if you have that code all it is telling you is that there is no problems since last time codes were cleared
