dixie horn

well.. i went to see dukes of hazzard the other day and i want to get a dixie horn for my truck... but all the kits ive looked at come with somethin like 5 big horns... well i definitely dont want to clutter up by havin the horns on the outside or somethin. can i put these under the hood? is there any kit that i can buy that has smaller horns that will fit under the hood?

I sell these for $99.99. It is the 5 horns.. here is a picture of them.

You should be able to find spots under your hood for these. They are not really all htat big.. For the best sound though you are going to want to mount these somewhat close together.

Are those the ****ty ones that have a pause between the notes? I would want one that sounded exactly like the dixie horn not some crappy sounding jcwhitney one.

i bought one, years ago, by Wolo from Jcwhitney, and it sounded just like the one in the dukes. And i just purchased the one pictured from a fellow member to put in the truck. Now i'm thinking about putting them under the bed, because really thats the only place that i can find that won't get mudded and completely submerged, unlike behind the skid plate.

You should be able to fit them behind the grill. I have my horns set there. It's only 2 horns, but there is definately enough room to fit 5 in there.

EVERYBODY.....I have dixie coming out from behind my grill. NO!! I did not buy them because of the movie. Here's the story: When I was in 7th grade, I started watching the re-runs of the origional series and REALLY wanted a set. My 8th grade graduation present was the horns. Keep in mind, this is over 4 years ago. I've had them on 3 different trucks, and the ranger was the most difficult install.

Mom & Dad got them from JCwhitney, the same place where the origional car's horns were purchased from, for $65. Price is different now, but whatever.

Here's some pics of the install. And please feel free to ask any questions:

Mock-up

Solenoid/Compressor bracket

The Setup

I don't have a finished pic of my dash, but here's where I mounted the push button for the horns w/ a rubber top on the buttom for a finished look:

As you can see...You dont notice them too much since I painted the horns and where the solenoid is placed alloys for easy lube jobs.

All my friends like it so much, I'm installing a set of Dixies in a '04 Duramaxx next week(If I can find room for it!)

I wish i could install them like you did. But i have a trans. cooler, and some air ducts or something in there behind the grill. I think i found out where mine are going, in the right rear wheel well, infront of the tire. I'll use my front mudflaps, inside the wheel well to keep mud/water off of them. Seems like a good idea to me right now.

okay Zach....I havn't looked at a JCwhitney catalog for about 2 years. To be honest, I don't know what they want for them now. Back then, they were about $65. Also, It was like 2am when I posted the reply, and well....i was kind of tired when i posted. But it's all good.

Being a big Notre Dame fan like myself (in case you did not know) i would like an air horn that plays the Notre Dame Victory March just to tease the michigan fans. Any clues where i can find it?? Thanks

Well, i have had my Dixie horn installed for a little over a month now. And I have loved it, really makes me miss my old torino though[what my first one was in].
I had my old one, and newer style one. I first installed the old compressor, and 3 of the old horn, and used two of the new ones that look like they'd match up. Well, it didn't sound right. I hated it, 3 notes were wierd/off sounding. So i went ahead and installed the entire "newer" one. It has a melody sound to it, but still sounds good. and.. onward to the pics...

Only possible with a body lift, and dropping the fan shroud because of the lift. 4 horns are securely bolted in place and the last horn of zip tied between two others. Everything is out of the way of anything.
Sounds loud, one bad thing, i can hear the compressor turn from inside the truck, but outside, even next to my door, you can't hear the compressor at all.

I had mine mounted on my fender on the inside. It worked out really good. I never had any problems with them gettin in the way and you couldnt see them from the outside.
