How's that skid plate coming along?

I'd say something is wrong somewhere. I know you've got those big honkin tires but mine are an inch smaller boths ways(width/height). Not that much of a difference. How many miles you got on the truck? Did you re-gear?

From a full tank to exactly @ E, I get around 280 pulling my lil boat, about 300 with the three wheeler and all it's gear, and 340 when I'm putting around. 300 when I'm giving her hell.

Nah i didn't regear because i had 4.10s to start with. I might Consider regearing. There is also a load chain rattle noise when i acccelerate. I think it might be the timing chain on the engine. It doesn't want to get up and go that much anymore and i'm hoping that it isn't the tranny. I only have 39,900 miles on it. Sucks. Yep L2En i have the skidpate on already It looks really nice and thanks a bunch. I will be getting pictures soon. Going to finish painting my bumper and valence black.

Normal weekly commute gets me 240 miles with a 1/4 tank left. I never run it below that. Keep that fuel pump cool ! =) I usually get about 20.2mpg or so.

On a trip north to Marysville, OH up US23 and back I averaged 24mpg. Was kinda in shock but a pleasant shock. I ran it about 60mph most of the time and not over 65.

i got 320 once and still had 2 gallons left. the light was on forever tho.

now i get 250-275 (take 16-17 gallons to fill) with 35s which i dont think is too bad. and my speedo/odo is corrected

Thats about what I am at as well. I need to switch back over to the performance tune and go on a road trip.

on my 03 3.0 with 4.10's and 30"tires i get roughly in the city about 14-16 and the same on the highway...if I drive it hard in the city (which i usually do) i get about 13...but gas milage is not that big of a deal to me...I can usually get about 260 on my 19 gallon tank...and at 260 i better be looking for a gas station...

Never try to guestimate your milage by figuring how far you went 'on a tank' of gas. The fuel guage in our trucks is anything but accurate. And everyone's opinion on what 'empty' means is different. Some never see 'the light' come on, others drive around for days w/ it on. It's just a poor way to compare.

Instead fill your tank to full, reset the tripometer, then on the next fillup refil the tank all the way. Divide what the tripopmeter shows by how many gallons you just pumped. That's far more accurate.

That said, I'm getting between 275 and 325 miles on a tank before I decide it is time to fill up. I'm nipping at 20 MPG. I usually pump between 14.5 and 16.5 gal. I believe I have a 17 gallon tank on my 2003 FX4 LII Supercab.

colin you have a 19.5 gallon tank like everyone else does in an extended cab ranger.

i dont think we are guesing our MPG here.

if i drive 270 miles and put 17 gallons in to fill it up that is hard facts about what my mileage was. and i fillup everytime.

Fine.. it has a 19.5 gallong tank. It doesn't matter though as I have never and will hopefully never completely empty it.

The important difference between what you're saying and the original question is that you are saying you drove 270 miles from a full tank and needed 17 gallongs to refil the tank.. not that you got xyz miles before the gauge 'read' empty, and you have an abc gallon tank, but someone else only got jkl miles on the same size tank.. so you must be getting better gas milage than them. One statement is somewhat scientific and repeatable, the other is just a WAG!

Asking "How far do you get on a tank?" is like asking "How long do you stay in at the poker table when you've got a ****ty hand?" Everyone's going to answer differently. Miles/tank is virtually meaningless as a comparison between vehicles.

Driving habits have a pretty big impact on gas mileage .

I just calculated my gas mileage today . I drove maybe 1/3 highway miles and the rest stop and go.i also used the a/c for about 1/4 of the time. I average about 16 mpg. this meant I went about 270 miles before i felt i needed to fill up. My 19 gallon tank took 16.5 gallons..

with high gas prices i drive like a prude. I keep my Rpms below 2,500 most of the time, unless accelerating hard to get on the freeway etc . Try to avoid hard accelaration. I roll the windows up at speeds over 55 mph and open the rear window instead. I use cruise control VERY often , even in traffic and on side streets when reasonable.

On the open highway using cruise control no a/c hauling a few hundred pounds at 72 mph i get closer to 310 miles before i feel i should fill up.

It should be noted i have a hi- rise camper shell adding weight and not very aerodynamic. I also either carry a few hundred pounds of tools or a carpet kit about 150 pounds. i estimate 1- 1.5 mpg is lost with these two things.

On the open highway with cruise control at 72 mph/2,500 rpm i know I get more like 310 miles out of a tank but i have not calculated it yet.

What i want to know is what do you guys get for gas mileage in 4 low ? I'm not sure what mileage i get but honestly it seems to be only between 1 and 5 mpg. I usualy never burn up more than 1/2 tank in 5 low on a trail total trail miles is usualy between 30 and 55. I realize crawling in 1st and second or climbing hills makes it pretty variable. I don't go over 25 in 4 low, ever.

I know my truck sucks after seeing all of these. I know its apples to oranges BUT my last 2004 Ranger got 20-25mpg all city driving. Thats about 340 miles to a tank.

With the 2006 my milage sucks. I get AT BEST 15mpg. Its all city driving thats earning that 15mpg which is roughly280-300 miles to a tank which is sucky. Ahhh well... I know its sad when my 05 F-250 gets better milage with 35's and a 4" lift.

I always reset my trip odometer and divide it by the gallons to fill the tank. There's a small margin for error even with that unfortunately but thanks for the point NHBubba =D

That error is far smaller than 'guessing' at your milage based on the size of the tank and/or what the gas guage says.. especially w/ the very large reserves these trucks seem to have.

I get about 210 miles on 13.5 gallons, city driving. I know my speedometer is off because I went up to 33's so my numbers are all screwed up. Truck is 2003, FX4, super cab, 4.0L, Auto,4.10s, RCD lift, 33/11.50 Pro-comp x-terrains.

I was getting about 320 miles when the light comes on which is about 16 gallons & 20MPG, now with the wheels/tires I'm looking @ 290-300 when the light comes on so its dropped some. This is with K&N Intake, Gibson Exhaust & a Programmer running on 87 Mileage program.
