crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer

anyone ever have one come apart on them?Just replaced mine thought it was some kind of universal ford dual pulley turns out it had separated and was in 2 pieces never seen anything like it.think I bought it like that over a year ago figured someone put it back together like that cause if it separated while I drove it would have noticed and had to replace belt,it had been there so long that the belt wore groves into the rubber of the smaller piece.I know this whole thing sounds crazy but will post pics of the old pulley shortly.

Mine didn't come completely apart, but it was starting to and it was rattling and chirping a lot before I replaced it with an underdrive pulley. It is a faulty part, and ford does need to do a recall, but I don't see it happening.

Mine came apart on 4th of july last year with about 70K miles on it...

The New part you get from Ford has a revised part number and looks slightly different.... If I were you I would drop the Money on underdrive pulleys

ya I called ford they wanted $365 for the part I found one at a local parts store for less than half that.I do agree this should be a recall as I feel it is a safety hazard.I think I am going after the dealer that sold me the truck because somebody knew this was in need of repair over a year ago before I got the truck,I only found out because of the squeeling that started two weeks ago.

Ive seen a half dozen or so. Usually people come in and say they cant keep there belt on they got a new one and it doesnt fit cause they dont realize the pulley is missing.lol. Ford is not going to recall anything not considered a safty hazard.

Just order underdrive pulleys from www.stuffforyourranger.com Their site is coming to a close unfortunately, but they still have some stuff, and some has really good pricing.

It's funny that I found this article because when I discovered the same thing happening on my daughter's truck I was completely baffled. I've never dealt with a crankshaft or harmonic balancer but since I am I would rather that it wasn't in such a weird state. I would like to assume from watching the replacement video on line that there is a bolt, a very large bolt, that is holding this in place except in this instance it is not. I understand what you mean by thinking that maybe it was a double pulley system and there are two side-by-side. The one on my daughter's vehicle was actually so far out from the engine block that it was rubbing on the radiator fan and making an obnoxious noise. And that is what prompted me to take a look at it. Now I'm wondering how to proceed and if there's anything different I should do considering this has happened. I'm also wondering if there is a sheared off bolt in there that I am going to have to remove before installing the new one?
