Yes, you CAN tow a 12ft trailer with your Ranger
But U-haul MAY NOT allow you to
You need to book a trailer on U-haul website and they will ask you to put in the vehicles specs
i.e. year, model, engine, automatic, ect.....
Then you should get a list of trailers they have that you can Legally tow
Legal is the thing
Ford calculates towing capacity for all its models, and those are the Legal capacities, 2011Supercab post those above
So its not what you CAN tow, its what yo MAY tow legally on public roads
And look at the GCWR WEIGHT
6,000lbs on 3.0l Ranger
GCWR(gross combined weight rating), this is the total weight of Ranger, People in Ranger, cargo in Ranger and total loaded trailer weight
The Ranger weighs 3,200lbs, 3,350 with full tank of gas, lol
Say 3,500 with gas and driver
That leaves 2,500lbs(6,000-3,500=2,500) for cargo IN the Ranger and the total trailer weight
GCWR has to do with brakes and vehicle power, how much weight can you stop going downhill, in a safe manner, lol, and how much weight can you pull uphill
You can buy your own trailer, and load it up, then head out on the highway, this is the YES YOU CAN tow anything you want to, lol
If its driving squirrely then up to you, but you can be pulled over and WEIGHED, ticketed and you have to leave the trailer on the side of the road, and come back with bigger truck to move it
But U-haul MAY NOT allow you to
