Buying a winch.

haha! who knew this modding would turn into a competition...who said line speed was only good in competition? Tom? Carl? Either way...apparently this is all a competition.
No, I'm glad the things are and glad you guys are around to help. I think we all got some kick @$$ trucks...the 2wd guys and the 4x4 guys.

Well I talked to an old friend and after like 5 min hes like...
You know you wont be happy unless you get the big winch (he was indicating the $$$ one) and I realized that is true.. So I'll probably be getting the
superwinch at summit If they sell the one that UNintregrated solonoid one.
I like the looks of the intregrated one but if they go bad.. I want to be able to replace them.

I'm the same way. I know in my head that brand X is only twice as expensive as brand Y because of the well known name and the quality is just as good..but I can't help but want to go with the known name...Good on you for realizing it tho man....

It can be tough to choose. Things made in the same factory are not necessarily equal either. China, in particular, does lots of contract manufacturing to a specification and has certain quality outcomes they must meet so the "name" distributor in this country can maintain their rep.
When they make a knockoff for the generic market, it may or may not be equivalent. It usually isn't -- for instance using bushing type load bearings instead of roller or ball units.
Bushings work fine but they are inefficient and more prone to wear. In some cases they are ideal to bear certain loads where rollers and ***** are impractical. Still, in a small winch I think I'd prefer roller or ball bearings.

OOO I found the superwinch for 597$ shipped (no ohio tax..) hurm...
or do i want 599$ at summit+tax (640$)
I'm thinking if i buy it at summit i can just take it back there if it craps out under
warrenty...
Also where is the best place to get a STRONG battery and syn rope.
I was thinking about getting an optima yellow top LARGE size and mounting it in my toolbox and using 2 or 0 gauge cables... That would take 50# off my front end too.. as its getting heavy with a 100# winch up there..

As for integrated or non, the only diff is as stated above. Non you can mount elsewhere, integrated is part of the housing. you can still replace them, but not quite as easily. Plus, as Toms aid, some people like the low profile of the non for hidden or less blockage of airflow.
Syn ropes..there is X-line, Amsteel, Masterpull and others. I picked Masterpull Superline b/c it has 12' of heat resistant spliced into regular line. For electric, you have to worry about the heat. Superline is the strongest rated stuff out there, plus they've been around for a while. check out www.masterpull.com
If you do go syn (and you should) then you sill need an Al or syn fairlead. I got a syn one at www.rockbuggysupply.com

I am going to get syn line and fairlead.. however I'm poor and as the cable will be NEW.. I will probably end up using it for ~~ 1 year until I have funds to upgrade...
I am already buying.. New battery, Winch, Rock Sliders :), Winch Mount...
I decided on the superwinch EpI9000
1) The harbor freight/mm knockoff winch didnt look very well sealed.. I bet within a 2yr it would have been a pile. in ohio anyway.
2)Superwinch - good brand name. 47ft unloaded speed...
AND 350amp@9000# load much lower than some others.
For instance a warn m8000 is 452@8000 Tabor 9000(warn) 553@9000
The only other option would be a t-max...but I dont feel like driving to columbus
to see one in person. I could order one of last year's models for 559$ shipped so it was tempting. ew9500...

ok ok ok... i just need an answer and yall can go back to arguing haha
i have the ability (atleast i hope so) to get a Chichago winch from Harbor Freight for about $50-$100.. and i havent had a need for a winch yet, and with the amount of wheeling i do, and the technicality of it, i probably wont need one for a while.. but anyways. i cant really turn down an 8 or 10k winch for that price...
reguardless to the comparison of a warn and what not, which is a waste for the amount of time i spend on the trail.. is this winch worth getting? then building a custom front bumper..
thanks
