Broke my truck, again

Well not really. um, going towrok yestrady on the thruway, downpour rain, SUPER wet outside, the torque converter locked up 2x at 55mph. with in 20 seconds of each other, lock up for a second then release. hmm.

ok, I cant take it to the dealerships, cause they think im crazy. heh, and, its such a um hit and miss problem that they would never "notice" it anyway. but ya know, heres the thing, truck has been running absolutely fantastic the past few months... but then the othernight i killed my battery by leaving my fogs lights on - oops. and now, it acts up now, i have driving thru all kinds of stuff. watter and what not to get this sucker to act up after i modified the harnesses, and all was cool. so, i looked at the harnesses last night, all is ok, the dum dum is holding well. so, my thought to all this, could this be the computer saying "i dont like dave so lets annoy him" heh. I dont really care at this point, its more of an annoyance, but if anyone has any ideas, other than "trade it in, id be glad to hear it.

I cant trade the truck in unless i get a super slick deal on a new one, and im not overly happy with the new ones, and i dont want a used one. so, ya, ideas are welcome.

What do you mean you "torque converter locked up"? I assume that you have an automatic right? When your going 55mph in high gear, your torque converter SHOULD just about be locked up. What exactly are the symptoms of your torque converter locking up?

Any additional info will help us help you?

maybe its slipping... the torque converter - that is... it generally happens between 35-45, in VERY wet conditions, i mean its gotta be WET. and, well it used to be ALOT worse... dad thru the idea out there originally bout the torque converter... sure as poop, 3 months later dealer is replacing everything related to it lol. but ya, this has been an on going issue, and, well, they fixed it, and they didnt fix it, they made it so it doesnt act up id say 98% of the time, then theres that lil 2%. I have told the dealer its the same problem as before, and that we are all wasting our time with their little bull**** hard drive cause THIS is the one thing that has NEVER showed up on their lil puter. heh figures. ya, so they all think im crazy and dilusional or something, sooooo.... instead of wasting weeks waiting for these dealers to get their heads out of the sand and just replace the friggin transmission, or computer or whatever, what can I, me the owner, do to fix this problem?

symptoms: truck bucks, jerks, like, say ur at a stop in a manual, and u rev it really high, and then just to have a lil fun you toss it into gear.. and you got that sudden definite jerking sesation, same thing only at a steady speed, no rpm changes at all, nothing that says "hey you got a problem!" but the sensation is there, not as bad tho, but its enuff that u know exactly hat it is when it happens....

id take the plugs apart and fill em with grease, and then seal them if i could get them apart, however getting the two ends seperated, DAMN heh

i have also noticed a sudden drop in mpg.... from 17 is 12. id call that a sudden drop. heh... it started about 3 weeks ago, i wrote it down, in my log cause for awhile there i wasnt logging miles, but the sudden drop made me right it down, ever since then the mpg hasnt come back up, even after switching gas companies. tho, maybe thats cause my fuel filter needs its 25K mile replacement,..... i dunno, just a lil tid bit.

did you get the additive added to the tranny when they had the 2004 automatic recall last year?

ya, ya kno, i did experience the slippage the recall talked about, and so i got the additive, and this is the good part, the DAY they added. i was at the post office, like later, put in reverse, and it didnt move so, i tapped the gas, thinkin a rock or something, nothing, no sound nothing i turn around look at my dash,, friign truck stalled! so ya i told them about that and they just kinda like, "eh only happened once?" heh type deal i dunno, no offense to the mechanics of our crowd, but seems to me like these dealers cant fix anything unless the "computer" tells them whats wrong.... i dont care how much "more complex" modern cars are... its all the same crap, internal combustion engine, driven by a mechanical transmission. we're not talking an electric car for 2050. we're talking about the cheapest "truck" made by americans.... uses all mechanical parts to move and function, just like they did 50 years ago... so wtf cant they fix it? oooh i kno, puter doesnt know there a problem....

ok im done rambling... its an electrical prob, an electrical short. somewhere. since i dont think its the harnesses, on the bottom, theres like 4 of em, its gotta be an electrical connection on the tranny, so, how would one go about wtater proofing them all?

When you killed the battery the PCM lost all it's heuristic parameters. It's going to be "learning" to run the engine and the transmission again. It's normal for it to run strange after a power outage. Give it a little time and it'll probably come back fine.
