for a 99 ranger if I remember right, a coulpe of cuts with the sawzall to the header panel and modded the brackets cause the 08 bumper is plastic not steel.
Works great

If I was going to carry in the bed, I'd have a receiver bolted through the floor to the frame to hold it down

But, then you may not have it when you need it, and if its laying in the bed, one seriouse projectile in an accident.

LOL, I was thinking of doing something like this, anybody got any pics of something like this. I have been trying to think of something that doesnt involve cutting holes in my bed floor though...not going to good...lol

Its really heavy to have in a small aluminum tool box IMO, unless it touched the bed.
As for not having it attached, i know i wouldn't drive around like that it would be in the garage.. where i live in Texas there are very few places to go wheelin so i kinda know when I'm planning on going lol
I had it on the front for a while, and it works for some dirt adventures and mud, but it gets in the way hella bad when your trying to climb rocks, that's why i wouldn't want it up there all the time.
When i get a welder at home one of my first projects will be to put a mounting bracket and a winch under the bed about were the spare tire carrier currently is, that way i always have one winch and its out of the way. Then I'll just attach the rollers to what every bumper I build

well i have one already i got for Christmas a few years ago lol, its a harbor freight and i figured i would just toss that under there and when 4wp has a nice sale again i'll put one on the front.. *most* of the time a rear winch would probably work pretty good as well.
i just like the idea of it being hidden and just seeing the fair leads coming out the custom bumper , I'll just cut a hole in my bed and hinge it so i can get to it easily
