Belt or Pulley Squeal but Not at Startup???
2004 4.0. I've had a belt squeal before, but it would squeal from the get-go. As of last week, all of a sudden the belt area is squealing, and it goes like this without fail:
1. start truck (silent, even if idling for a few minutes)
2. drive to the top of my driveway and stop (silent)
3. drive to the top of my street, and as soon as I start coming to a stop, it starts squealing like a banshee
4. after about 3-5 minutes of normal 25-45 mph driving, the squealing stops and will not start again unless the truck has been sitting idle for a few hours, then rinse and repeat steps 1-4
I guess I don't understand why if this were a belt or pulley issue, why would the squealing not start immediately?

Could be RPM related
Cold start has higher RPMs at idle
After warm up, idle is lower so spinning the power steering pump requires more friction/traction on the pulley
Power steering pump is the hardest pulley to turn, AC compressor can be as well but this time of year............................
Anyway, the noise is from the belt slipping on a pulley because it looses traction and when it makes that noise it also means that pulley is getting Glazed, smoothed, so once it starts slipping it will just get worse even with new belt
Best bet is to remove belt and paint or rough up pulley surfaces with Emory cloth, anything to take the shine and glass like surface(glazing) off the pulleys
And any moisture, rain or snow, also causes less traction for the belt just like it does for the tires
