All these questions about Synthetic oil......What about the oil filter?

I use the new microfiber Amsoil one from the "Ea" series. They are some seriously good filters and usable in extended drain applications for longer periods. The filter media blocks the particles differently and doesn't lead to restriction of flow as quickly, much like the micro (or nano) fiber air filters.

I can vouch for this, Before my Ranger, I had a 91 F150 4.9L. I used Fram because I liked there grip material used on the end. Back then, I didn't really know any better from filter to filter.
Had one blow out on me soon after an oil change. Now that I know more, Fram uses cardboard and paper and couldn't hold the pressure. Luckily I was in my driveway when it happened and was able to shut the truck down immediately.
I drove down to AZ in my neighbors car and took the Fram back to AZ and they kindly gave me a free motorcraft replacement.
So after that, I will not use any of Fram's products anymore, I don't care what the circumstances. I use Motorcraft now, cheap, have an excellent reputation and they get the job done reliably. -Mike-

Purolator PureOne, Purolator Premium Plus, K&N, Amsoil, Motorcraft, Mobil 1.....all are great filters. Fram isn't worth the risk. I had a Nissan pickup a few years ago and decided to try Fram instead of Purolator. HUGE mistake. Every time I started my truck with the Fram filter, it made awful noises like the oil wasn't getting to the upper reaches of the engine. It lasted for about thirty seconds or so. Freaked me out! Not knowing what the issue was I tried a thinner oil and got the same results. I had no clue at first that it was the filter until I read on the web (many months later, and several oil changes) about a drainback valve failure in Fram filters that can cause oil starvation at startup. I was skeptical at first but decided to change out my filter to a common Purolator one and ....BINGO.....no more noise! Never had it again after I stopped using Fram (I used them several times before figuring this out and found that ALL of the Frams I used caused the startup noise).
