2002 FX4 (level 2) questions

Hey guys...I'm looking into buying this truck some time in the next couple of days. I was wondering if there is anything specifically I should take a look at. It has 50,000 miles, 5 speed with manual t-case, and for the ones dont' know, it has all the Level 2 goodies. They want 10K for it, which I think is an alright price considering I bought a 97' with 90,000 miles for 6K. Anyone have anything I should be looking for.

--Thanks

Watch out for the slave cylinder. See if there are any records if it being replaced.

standard timing chain issues. you wont have the auto transmission problems - lucky you.

mine has been pretty solid (if you dont count the tranny).

that truck shouldn't have any major problems (if it has been taken care of) for about another 75,000+ miles.......they are sound trucks........

i would recommend if it isn't from a Ford dealership, to take it to a well known mechanic and spend the money to have it looked over before you buy it.....

Mine is running great. I did have something done to the Slave Cylinder under warranty not too long after I got it (over 5 years ago so I don't remember exactly what, something not right from the factory I think) and there was also an axel recall back in Jan or Feb of 02. They replaced the whole deal breaks and all so you might want to check that that was done as well. Only other issue was the rear breaks but that is standard for all rangers.

I've never had any issues with my brakes?

I'd say for 10k if it's in good shape that's a great deal!

But I always feel it's worth mentioning that there was a recall on early '02 FX4's because of an issue w/ the differential or housing or something. Fords solution was to yank the entire rear axle on all effected '02 FX4's ... but only on trucks equiped w/ the manual trans. Auto trans trucks were not recalled.

So, if you do find a diff off an '02 it might not be what you want. If you're okay w/ that.. then no worries. But buyer beware.

That's referring more to buying a differential out of an 02 FX4, not the truck itself. If it's been replaced then it should be fine. If it hasn't been replaced and it's on the whack, then he can get it replaced from Ford for free.

Thanks guys...I found another one, 2003 with 62K miles, 5 speed, dual exhaust (not sure if I like it) and to top it off...It's sonic blue. I figured $12K isn't a bad price for it. No one is looking at this one and the place is closed all weekend, so it looks good.
