05 TRD Offroad Tacoma v.s. 05 Ranger Edge
#27
Yeah, I just hate everybody bashes the ranger these days, because the compatition has more horsepower. I don't need a V-8, if I wanted a V-8 I would buy a 150 or bigger, so the dakota is out for me. I could use a few more horsepower but then I would just get speeding tickets left and right. Idon't know for sure but I would guess the torque on the nissan and taco are not the best with DOHC, typically DOHC motors are not torquey motors, maybe it has more torque but at what RPM wheres the peak and what the curve like. and the honda ridgeline I don't even count as a truck since it does not have a frame, and the motor is in sideways.
Esco's chevy colorodo is nice but I-5's are just werid.
My truck has a fun to drive rate of a 10 out of 10 and I could not be happier with my truck.
There is only one truck I would trade my truck for and even this would be hard, and thats a 2001 to 2004 SVT Lightning.

I think we had simular experiences, but mine was with Mopar and Ford. I wanted a v8 to mod away at after having a 3.slow in my 99xlt. I talked with Mopar and they wanted like 22,500 for a stripped Dakota. I didn't even want a radio.
Went to ford and compared. The Dakota had a 318 and all of 220hp? The SOHC was rated at 207 ( for a v6, not bad at the time, I didnt compare TORQUE! What an id10t ) . I told them I wanted a regular cab, stick, 4.0 and a l/s rear. Didn't want power anything, but I would love to have the rubber floor instead of carpet ( I hate salt from the winter filling my rugs in the 99 ) .
He came up with the ' edge ' and it had everything, BUT I *HAD* to have an extended cab to get the 4.0. ( or 4x4 ). I asked for a price... 17,580 before any talking.
I thought about it for a few days, My 99 was paid off, I was riding it for free.
They offered me 5500 for my stripped 99. A friend offered me 5grand outright. The Salesperson at ford offered me 3 packages.. 1000$ rebate and 0% apr, 2000$rebate and 3.9% and some 4000$ and like 7.x apr..
I took the 7.x apr, put the 4grand down on the truck, ordered it. Told my friend the 99 was all his, needed it till they built mine.
My truck came in, I put the 5grand down on it. He threw in a bed liner and the MP3 player ( that I still don't really use ) and 3 years worth of all maintenance ( fluids and wiper blades.. tire rotation ) .
The day my first payment came, I paid it off outright at the same dealership. I don't think I would have had a better deal with ANY auto sales place on this Continent

one thing i can say abut t he nissans is the undercarriage is CLEAN. if you want to see what I mean go check it out, I was impressed. thats abut the only thing there.
the tacomas are held high in the offroad world and the aftermarket for em shows. theres a ton of SAS tacos where as theres only a handfull or two newer ranger SAS's. I honestly like the tacomas but I like my ranger more. it used to be about "who's better" to me but now its more about if I truly enjoy my truck and how well it does and how much I can mod it. and that works in my book. I havent had a lot of problems that i didnt some how cause and Im overall happy about my whole ford experience.
My dads a ford truck man, my uncle is a ford truck fan, Im a ford truck fan. cant say much about the rest of the family as they might be turning dodge but if the give me flack ill just tell them to come four wheeling with me and we'll see wh gets where
