I think it's perfectly fair to compare the KCs to the 4000s.. as long as you take price/value into account as well. And for my application, the KCs proved to be the proper mix of cost, value, and performance.. I don't drive Rallys for a living, I don't have the need for that much performance. Hell, I have the 'mild' 100W 'driving' pattern slimlites and they are more than enough for my needs. Although I was willing to part w/ a little more scratch to get something solid and durable, something that came in a metal (not plastic) housing and would hold up to more than one New England winter worth of abuse.

It all depends on what you're after and how much $$$ you have to burn.

there are a few different models, most of the differences are in the lens, there is euro, spot, pencil, cornering, fog, free form, HID, etc.

the Rallye 4000 line

Ok lets talk quality can Hella take an open hit and not break from a very larg branch or do they have to be covered. now i know that kc can take a hit cause my dad had kc on his jeep and mad did those things hold up or what......

Look at almost every offroad desert race vehicle in existance today. What light are they running? Hella 4000 or Hella 4000 HID. That has got to tell you something. Obviously they can hold up to extream abuse. Obviously they have enough power to not be out ran by a truck doing 100mph. Do I need to go on? There is no doubting the power, design, rugedness of Hella.

This is one of those Chevy Vs. Ford debates. Everybody has a favorate and is going to stick by them. I agree 100% with Colin, you bring Price/Value/Use into it and yes, KC is going to be great for alot of people, the price is right and they work quite well. But there is a distinct nother' level with the 4000's/4000HID(which run ~700 EACH, so no reason to even add them in)...

Have you KC peoples ever been in a truck sporting 4000's?

If I were running the baja, I would definitely look into something other than my 6" Slimlites...

I would look at 8" HIDs...

but then again, those Baja trucks have unlimited budgets, and don't care about warranties..

One of the biggest selling points to me, is the guarantee of 23 years of a functioning offroad light. That is a long time...

Hellas are great lights, I never talked bad about em. All I know about are PIAAs(1 model) and about 4 models of KCs...

I love my KC lights.

half of my family is in norway, and every single damn car or truck has a pair of white or yellow rallye 1000s. as far as quality, Hella cannot be beat IMO, their product lines expand beyond even some of the tallest budgets. but the 4000s are a great deal at $200/pair, you cannot compare smaller slimlites to 4000s, then again, 4000s are too deep sometimes to mount on the front of a ranger. the KC lights would probably best compare to the FF1000 line or the Black Magic, which is a revised rallye 1000 lens.

KCs are good lights, i would never argue with that, ive just always been and always will be a Hella guy, ive never had any let me down, so ive never needed a warranty, although im sure they do offer one. a friend cracked a lens on his FF1000 when he ran into a parking pole, he sent hella an email and they sent him a new one. now i cant vouch that they will do this for everyone, but in that one case thats just what they did. always had good luck with their customer service, even though they are a HUGE company they still get personal. the blue stickers on my old pair of rallye 1000s wore off because of the damn bugs, one email and i had 8 new stickers and a ton of Hella decals

 

I'm sure Hella makes a wonderful product (other than the 500's!). Unfortunately they are just too rich for my blood. I strugled to justify the $140/set my slimlites set me back. I can't imagine blowing +$100/lamp PLUS harnesses, rock guards, etc. Were I running deserts professionally I might feel otherwise..

Anyhow, KC Slimlites are damned nice. Buy'em dude, you'll like'em..

 

Like i said before, the best light to compare to the KC slimlite is the Hella FF1000, which is $100 for the kit

and the 100 per lamp for the 4000 series includes the lamp harness bulbs and covers. youll ned $3 worth of wire......

 

Where can you get this FF1000? I didn't see a $100 2-lamp Hella kit when I was shopping. And I did a crapload of shopping.. Except the 500, that you can get for like $65 w/ harnesses and covers.

..and switch, and relay, and connectors.

Every place I've seen the 4000-series lamps advertised says they require wiring harnesses which are sold seperately. The KCs were one stop shopping, which apealed to me..

hey man if were you i'd listen to Dr. Bob J. everything he's told me has been factual from the day i met him a few months ago....i listen to most of what he says, except colormatching my grill

if it were me i'd go with the Hella's and more specifically the Rallye 4000 Xenon (a.k.a. HID) to match my Hid lights....but they're around $600

i'd also get the hella's because, like bob said, they're backed buy POWERFUL companies that trust them to make parts that are bar-none. Plus, Porsche as an example will far outweight a friends opinion anyday.

the main 2 reasons, other than what Bob said, i'd get the hella's is because everyone has KC's and i dont want things on my truck that are merely "priced right." Things that are "priced right" usually end up in he trash and that's just not good enough for me...

You get what you pay for. If you want KC's get them same with the Hella's. I'd check ebay too that may save you alot of money if you still want the Hella 4000. I'll have my Hella 4000 Xenon's very soon

I've actually seen a 4-runner with 6 of the Rallye 4000 Xenon lights on it...$$$$$

 

That looks like a fair price if these things are as wonderful as folks claim. Still, it's the first I've seen of them. Most retailers offer the 500's, and then the 4000's w/ nothing really in between.

I agree that you get what you pay for.. but I see a huge distinction between the $50 off-brand lamps w/ plastic housings (been there, broke that) and the KC's. I'm sure the Hella 4000's are a whole 'nother tier even above the KC's. My question is: is that level necessary for us meare mortals? For the price, I suggest it isn't, the KC's already present a very good quality product.

Sure xenon off roads lights aren't necessary nor is the price tag for EACH of them, but they're bad *** and they put out a far better light quality and no one has them that can't afford them...which is probably not that may

 

Eh, takes all kinds. I have no problem putting 'priced right' stuff on my truck.. as long as it does it's job. Hell, the whole truck is 'priced right', that's why I bought it!

You know pepboys carries hella driving lights the cheap ones but they work ok I ran them for a while. dont forget about pias and dont forget Barrie gets lights some times off the race trucks uh duh.
