Yes, that was the original reason for a new x-member. However, read here (recently updated): https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...t=65402&page=3.

I've wanted a new x-member for awhile, but now with the addition of a doubler, my t-case surface area is gonna increase abit so I really want some additional protection. Pluusss the rear portion (and perhaps even the front) might be able to be utilized as lower frame mounting points for the rear links!

No, not necessary. I'm quite happy with how my rear suspension performs. After my re-vamped front leaf suspension, I hope it will please me just as my rear has. I'm also not planning to have the 14 bolt installed for a good while yet (year +). It'll probably go in around the time I get the 5.0 installed. All said and done, I'll cross each bridge (front/rear linked) when it seems its the right time to do so out of choice, as opposed to necessity.

Right now I'm just super stoked for my tranny x-member/t-case skid AND doubler setup!

Everything is just tack welded, and there's still plenty left to add, so no comments about the structural integrity or any of that ****.

Update time!

I finally got the t-case skid framed up..

looks good except for those flanges, I would have gone with something like this so the bolt doesnt hang down.

 

Good point Andrew. I may look into that design or adjust/rotate what I have.

 

You could prolly get away with rotating the flanges you have, so two bolts are flat to the ground.

 

All welded (cept for the bolt-up flanges).. next step is to fix up the 3/16" plate for the actual skid. I got all of it done, just no pics yet. Soon though..

yeah you have way more patients than I, Did you use a grinder on all that? I mean that had to take forever. LOL

(off-topic here, but what is your caster set to? seems like its not much positive caster at all.)

Are you referring to all of the miters and such? Or just the shiny look of it? All of the miters I did with an abrasive chop saw.. then I smoothed the outer corners of all the miters (after welding 'em) I could get to with a flap disc. And 'forever' on any job is in the eye of the beholder and just how nice of a finished product ya want.

No clue on the caster to tell ya the truth. I really havn't bothered much with any of the alignment since it has handled pretty damn well for me so far. Returns to center pretty true and I've driven it 2+ hrs each way for a few wheelin' trips. No issues.
