Got all grade 8 mounting hardware today. All 5/8 inch bolts. 6 in total.
and I hate to say it, but I might have to cut my exhaust tips off. They are in the way of the bottom bolt holes on the frame, and I want them holes to be another mounting point.
Ill just get my tips re-welded on later......and this might give me a chance to get a super 10..hehe

Cut some more pieces today from the free piece of scrap steel hehehe
Cut two gussets. Also the pieces look weird, but the bigger pieces are going to be the clevise/shackle/pin thing mount lol. Just need to be cut a little more, cleaned up and test fitted.
Safety first!! and yeah.....that is sitting on my outside garbage barrel.

yeah it is hahaha.
The gussets and the clevise mounts were cut from the same 3/4 inch plate. This 2 foot 8 inch plate had been sitting in the same spot for two years at work, so I snagged it......hey it was free lol.
I didnt feel like looking for something thinner. More weight in the rear end for winter weather lol.

Oh yeah forgot to add. I picked up some 1 1/4 inch and some 1 1/2 inch square tubing today.
My measurements were slightly off, so the tailgate would just barely sit on the top piece of square tubing.
He told me that he had both, so I paid him $10 for both pieces that are 5ft long. Ill try them both out to see which one works best.

So this is my chance to get some experience. And I am having a blast building this thing.
I encourage you to build one. Make it yours and unique.

Ya I've been thinking and trying to decide how I want it because I'd like some corner protection but I also like the look of it tucked under like a roll pan so I guess I'll just have to play around with it and see how I like it. Is that how your doing yours or did you have some Idea or drawin that your going off of?
#43
Well, I kinda wanted it tucked under the tailgate, but after I modified the hitch, I realized that it wasn't going to work out that way without compromising strength.
I didn't go off of any drawings, just visualization. If you look at it from the rear, it looks as if it is tucked under the tailgate, but it actually sticks out about 3 inches, which I like actually like better for some reason.
I have no corner protection, but that might pop up later.

Mounted the bumper, and put a small block and rested the top piece of tubing on it just to check clearance of the tailgate. This is not the final product. I realized this evening that I am far from done with this thing being the way that I want it.
A couple of profile pics. It sticks out slightly, which I like better than tucked up under the tailgate.
Next: Cut off exhaust tips. Add two more crazy thick gussets. Trim and weld clevise mounts onto bumper. Top piece of tubing will be welded on top of the clevise mounts.

Bottom mounts..well....mounted lol
They arent as thick as they look in the picture. Will use 7/8 plate to fill the gap and weld 'em up.
Cleaned up the bumper slightly. Trashed the previous d-ring mounts and picked up a 1 inch plate to make some more out of.
Slow progress, but more to come later.
