I was worried. I remembered reading something about children and riding in the back. The owners manual states NO booster seats in the back.
Just make sure that front seat is secure, sure wouldn't want it to slam back against her little legs.

As the other poster mentioned about having the child seat behind the driver has it's pros and cons. Pro - most times when people have an accident the brain protects them. That is why so many passangers are killed in teenager cars. Con - It would tend to make the driver get the child out into traffic. I see so many people do this with a child in the back seat. :-(

I hope it works well for you.

i would never even consider mountin a child seat sideways. they are not designed to restrain the occupant in that manner.

no need to worry, victory, i build racecars all day, everyday. keepin people safe in collisions is very important to me.

i am sketchin out my second version of this idea and gatherin parts. it will have a more developed framework and will be an actual toddler seat as opposed to a sophisticated anchor point for a child seat.

I have my first arriving in January. This is exactly what i want to do. I searched all over the net until I found this. Does anyone know if this is this legal in the US? It certainly looks safe, probably safer than in the front with the airbag off and certainly safer than in the bakc of a civic.

Very nice work!

thanks for the compliments guys.

as far as legality, i have no idea. all i know is its safe. i designed it to be, and my next one will jus a safe as this, if not more. i even took it to the fire dept to have them inspect it, they have child seat inspections every so often. they liked it, and said it looked plenty safe, but couldnt give any advise on legality either.

i looked into this part here. from the people i talked to it will take $15K-20K out of pocket to get my idea patented and on the market so a business could start manufacturing them.

anybody wanna invest in my idea?

No, but If it turns out to be legal to do this I would buy one from you. You don't need a patent as the market will likely be small, but why not produce and sell?

For me to make one I would have to drive 10 hours to my Dad's house to use his shop, which I wouldn't mind doing if i could transport the kid and wife, but that's why I would be driving there in the first place.

wow thats the sweetest idea. My daughter is old enough to sit in the rear jumper now but we got another one on the way and Im kinda worried about travelling with everyone. My girl has an Aveo that will fit everyone into but no room for overnight bags etc. Selling the Ranger is out of the question for at least a few years due to a small financial predicament were in so looks like were basically screwed untill her lease is up then its "goodbye Ranger, hello brand new 4-door Canyon". Guess the girlfriend will just have to sit in the back seat till then HAH. Wish I coudl find something like that to fill in for now thats an awesome idea
