I'm thinking of doing the same thing, lol -- only using solid 1" thick plate steel. I work in a steel mill, so the materials and cutting are available. I want to do round ones, but I can see really that's not necessary. It would be easier to just cut squares since they're pretty much out of sight.

wow, drillin thru 1" solid should be fun......NOT! not to mention the weight, dang!
mine are from 1x2x.120 rect HREW. cut 3" long. i measured the blocks from gay-briels PA BL and they were 3" round. thats why i cut mine 3"
no, you dont hafta extend anything. thats another good reason to only go with 1"
no shifter extension, no steering shaft extension, no grounds to extend, no brake lines to re-shape, no fuel neck to extend. hell, i didnt even hafta mess with the fan shroud
