I definately think you should make up a couple rough dimension drawings just for the loads of people that want them haha. looks amazing, cant wait to see it finished.

heres the thing- linex- never rust and can take a beating, but every bug will be ground in it, and its hides errors.
paint- looks good, but if there is any sort of ripple- it will stand out like a boner in sweatpants.

 

i guess i wlll wait till its all done then make a judgment call

 

What if you use a bedliner other than Line-X. I have seen other bedliners that are more glossy than Line-X and not as porous.

update- i got more gas, and wire so im back in action. i ran out. i plan to get the fog light holes cut out, and start figureing out how to mount it up so it fits tight to the body.

anyone have and ideas of mounts? also, a winch may be going in here so i need to plan around taht.

what size winch will be good? i read somewhere it should be 1.5 times the vehicle weight, so would a 8k work? or should i just go 9k? if you all can help me out there that would be awesome, so then i will know what to get.

Ive been wanting to build one like that and was planning on using a double hitch style mount so i can remove it with ease cause i know the weight will kill your gas mileage...its just a thought, i got it drawn down at work from doodleing if your interested pm me and ill scan it when i get the chance

 

Thats a good idea, But what do you do when you take it off,
Would you just make your stocker mount the same way?

I would just rattle can the bumper, that way touch ups or anything will be super simple and easy to do. as far as mounting, I would cut off the end of the frame horns and cap them. Then make mounts that go on either side of the frame horns. almost like a pen cap on a bic pen. sleeve in the frame pieces of tube so that the bolts dont crush it. Bam done.

I would go with a 9000 pound winch, they arent that much more then a 8k and it will give you that little extra umph. Specially since your 2wd so you will most likely use it more often then someone who had a 4wd.

 

The bumper would most likely rattle around cause a hitch and receiver aren't perfect. A bumper isnt going to hurt your mpg that much, no more then having someone else in the truck with you would.

 

I just rattle can painted mine. I like it cause I can just touch it up when it needs it.

 

Can I ask how many sheets of ply wood you went threw construction the template? I never thought of mocking up with wood first. I always mess angles up on the metal and its scrap lol.

i know that, so i was going to use thick rubber from work to shim between the hitch and the reciever. i know the rubber will hold up we use it on the machines we build at work as conveyor belts, i can get all kind of thickness. heres what we use them for

 

I agree with the 50000 other people; you should make some quick drawings of the individual pieces and dimension them for us!

actually the plywood was all scrap off the job, only maybe a 1/3 sheet.


i started on the frame mounts. what a pain in the ***. im trying to make it simple and strong so it will probably take me a few days of staring at it until it clicks. im thinking of forgoing the winch idea and just adding in a receiver like some you suggested. its cheaper, lighter, and i can do more with it.

heres the next question- im using .120 sheet for most of the work. im gussing its somewhere between 1/8 and 3/16. do you think i could make strong enough mounts using that or should i pick up some 1/4? i have alot of .120 left, which is why i ask.

when its all done, i will draw it all up and have all the dimensions, provided you all give me photos of possible mounting ideas, hhahaha

 

if i did this just as you are, what would be a good way to get like, a flat black on there with a sealant? for low cost and no professional help.
