Superlift driveshaft length

I've got my Superlift home and an XJ driveshaft ready to shorten, but can anyone tell me if I get it made the same overall length as my original shaft, or should it be better to be a bit longer?
I asked in my other thread - https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...sive-week.html - but I don't think anyone saw my question as I got no replies.
I assume it should be the same length as stock in the center of it's travel seeing that it's possible to use the stock shaft with the lift, I was just hoping someone could tell me for sure!

If you don’t have the measurements yet, tell me what you want ?

Give me the exact areas you want measured and how you want it measured, this way we are on the same page from the get-go.

I guess the easiest if it's installed on your truck may be center of the front to center of the rearmost u-joint? Then I can just get my XJ shaft made to that length, and then just add on the adapter.
I'm hoping it will work this way... I won't have my Superlift on til spring and I'd like to have the shaft ready to bolt in at the same time.
If you can help me out, thanks in advance!

Mine is not installed yet, it is laying on the floor.

My SL is in the box waiting for parts, been over six months since I started gathering parts so it has been a long wait.

I got a new (2 month old) SL Driveshaft for $200 so I am happy with that.

Let me know about the measurements.

Sounds good! Thanks man.
Since it's laying on the floor and easy to measure... could you get:

Center of front u-joint to center of rearmost u-joint with shaft fully extended
Center of front u-joint to center of rearmost u-joint with shaft fully compressed
Center of front u-joint to the very end where it contacts the case output with shaft fully extended
Center of front u-joint to the very end where it contacts the case output with shaft fully compressed

That way I should have everything covered when I send this one in to be lengthened!
THANKS!

Here is what I did: I did not measure the U-oint itself just on the solid mounting flange.

Measured the Shaft Cntr to Cntr of U-Joints, without the CV or Flange, compressed = 23.375”

Measured the Shaft Cntr to Cntr of U-Joints, without the CV or Flange, expanded = 26.250”

Measured the CV Joint Cntr to Cntr of U-Joints = 2.750”

Measured the Flange, Cntr of U-Joint to flat of Flange = 2.875”
Note: there is a step in the Mounting Flange = .250”; not sure if this figures in.

I took the measurements and added the numbers to get to the compressed length vs the extended length; so what you have is actual U-Joint Measurements.
There are guys on this site that have already done the Ex Driveshaft setup so I hope they will step in and makes some comments on the measurements.

Do some comparisons and let me know how the two shafts match up.

Luck...

Hopefully shane will chime in on this one... He also has an expo shaft shortened with the adapter for the tulip style front OS on the 1354.. I'm sure he has measurements.. I think he's got $250 or less into this shaft.

That would be good to compare any measurements.

I did read something about the Flange on this site.

Post what ever differences there are.

Oh ya, did you understand the measurements ?

I think I understand how you measured. I just got home from work and need to eat something, I can't concentrate... lol
By the CV, you're meaning the part that joins the two rear u-joints together, correct?

Is the step you're talking about the very top part of this picture?

I don't have a paint program on my mac, so I used an online microsoft paint site... then I realized the text function doesn't work on it!
So here is my first attempt at using my fiance's wacom tablet...

Does that match what and where you measured, Scrambler82?

Yup, I think you’ve got it !

And the “CV” should be "Cardigan Joint”.

Hope it all works out for ya !

ltr,

p.s. Shane, thanks for the pics, LoL, I should have taken some.
Does the Boot on the Lower Black Driveshaft come with it or added on ?

So what has to happen, you add the Cardigan and the flange to replace the Two-Lip thing… LoL.

If I didn’t get the SL Shaft for the price Idid I guess that would be the way to go.

No there's an adapter that converts the tulip style to the standard u-joint... Like I said, if Shane chimes in, he's got all the pics of what I'm talking about... Or someone could PM him to chime in lol

Hopefully someone else who has made their shaft or has a superlift one will throw some measurements up as well.
Not that I don't trust Scrambler82's measurements, it'd just be nice to verify before I drop this shaft off on Saturday to be shortened!

Do you think if I asked really really nicely you would crawl under your truck and take a measurement of the shaft while it's on the truck?
That way I would know how the installed length compares to the compressed/extended measurements and hopefully it would be right in between?
Pretty please?
