Front aussie locker question

Front aussie locker question

I'm ordering my aussie locker for the front of my 07' ranger 4x4 and it says on their site, "With the c-clip axle you will need to replace a c-clip with a spring. A valve spring from a small block Chevrolet (350) works well. We do not supply this spring with the locker."

Is that for the ranger or is that for a different application? I have no idea what they are talking about. I'm farely mechanically inclined but can't think why I would need to replace that c-clip with a spring??

You don't need anything extra for the Ranger install.

They probably are referring to the C clip that is found in some Jeep rear D35s. The front does not need a retainer as it uses CVs, not shafts like the rear.

That's BS for the XD-13535 made for the D35 used in 98+ Ranger and 95+ Explorer. No spring is needed. I told them about this error over a year ago and they still haven't fixed the blurb on their site.

The Chevy spring info was developed for the XD-13527 made for the 97-back Ranger or 94-back Explorer with TTB/D35. This is where it came from:

You have to drop the diff assembly out which requires a bit of disassembly. It's easy enough but will probably take a while the first time you do it.

The installation of the locker and measuring of the clearances adds more time. I had an early XD-13535 and had to make slight modifications to make it fit. Also, the instructions are generic and misleading at times. You might want to set more than "an afternoon" for the install.

If you have 4.10 gears you have to take the ring gear off and it is suggested to get new ring gear bolts. I didn't but should've. Don't plan for an afternoon, it always takes longer than you think plan for a weekend and if you finish early than you have time to go try it out!!

but me and my friend also had a slight knowledge of what was going on.

If you don't get new ring gear bolts, be sure to lock-tite them when you reinstall them.
