question. hella's hooked up to stock fog light switch?
i have 4 lights on the front of my truck. currently have two wired up. but would like to avoid cutting and stuff to put another switch inside.
now that i have a custom bumper, and no fog lights, can i wire the 55w hella's safely to the stock fog light wiring?

If you want higher powered lights, do what I did on my ranger. I used one of the fog pigtails to trigger a relay for KC's lights, and run new wire through the relay of course. This way you can switch them on with the factory switch.

400 watts / 12 volts = 33.3 amps
400 watts / 14 volts = 28.6 amps
Basic math. I would swap in a 40 amp relay if it was my truck.

Yea 28a is close, ill keep an eye out for some 40a+ relays while im at the junkyard. it's just 30a is so much more common which is why im running that.

I'm planning to run 3 or 4 lights. Can the stock foglight wiring handle 2 hella lights off of one of the foglight wires and the other 2 off the other?

Just to be sure. If I wire my 55w hellas into the factory foglight wiring I'll need to replace this relay with a higher rated one?

Run new wires and a new relay for your foglights if you're going to add more than 2.
The signal wire to turn on the relay should come from the original foglight wiring. The only "power" that would come through the foglight wiring is enough to turn on the relay.
Hook the lights up following the instructions that came with them. But instead of using their switch and wiring, tap into the factory fog light connector. Did that make sense?
I think someone even did a write up for this, it is really simple...

If I'm reading it right. I can do it like this? Just take the power from the factory fogs, tan/orange wire, and plug it in at the red circle? Then wire the rest like the directions say and do the foglight mod to get them to work with high beams?
I'm such an electrical noob!! lol

I haven't read through through it to get the correct colored wire, but that is right.
A relay is just a "remotely powered" switch. Most switches are only designed for a few amps, so that is the reason for using a relay. When you power that circuit (turning a switch or putting the foglight power into it), it just closes the circuit and sends the battery powered on to the light.
