So I currently have a pair of ProComp 130 watters. One of the bulbs has already burnt out, so I was thinking of upgrading the bulbs to HIDs. Does anyone foresee any problems that may arise from doing this? I will have to take a better look at my lights and see how they are put together. Mostly I am concerned with fitment issues. The bulb they use are H3.

Anyone know someone who has attempted/done this before?

This will work but keep in mind you will need to mount a ballast somewhere.

Stealth auto hid kit has really small balasts and cost about 150 bucks, if i remember right. their site is down right now.

I dont see why you could not add weather pack connectors extend the main wires and put the ballast inside the cab or under the truck somewhere.

Second, HID will they put out as much light as 130 incandescent bulb I know they are said to be 3x brighter than 55watts but really do they stack up.

Here's a set going cheap on ebay. If I had some cash on me, this action would have definitely tweaked my interest.

 

How about putting silverstars or similar bulb in 150w KC's? I would like to get my KC lights to match my driving lights.

 

They actually make a 55w offroad HID kit, but it costs somewhere around $180 without shipping I think... I believe they make the H3 bulb too... ebay 55w HID

 

i may just go the silverstar route...im not sure yet...

 

Silverstars are only 55w or 65w. KC's are 100w 130w 150w.



i've tossed around the idea of putting the H3 HID conversion kit in my KC's. It'd make all my lighting match. The problem I see....is that the HID bulbs are long. And the H3 bulbs are tiny bastards. That might be a problem.

There is of course, the new KC Pod lgihts....HIDS. Or the Rally 800 KC's HIDs. But all those are hella expensive.

 

When i have extra money to burn I might get a set of HID offroad lights from Dirtlights. I have been told that a lot of the rock crawler guys use them with no problems.

shane how long do you think the bulbs are? i dont have slims so i think i may be ok (hopeful wishing)

If you have the daylighter style big fat housing, i think you'll be fine. Only real problem I see, is how well that HID conversion bulb will allow light to bounce off the reflector on the housing.

 

I don't think they'll actually go anywhere, just the Conversion kit...

you need something with that reflector piece in front of them to make the beam go anywhere with a HID... I think the reflectors on the back of the KC is going to be enough to send it out... It'll all just "hang out" inside the housing... I see it like Shane does

 

well i bought the h3 HIDs yesterday...hopefully they will work...will let you know how it goes...

Do some bulb comparisons, what you're putting them in... Before and after lighting shots both during the day and at night... JUSTIN FTW!!!!

 

Will do will do, hopefully I get them in this weekend...dont think ill make the Pismo trip, so it will give me some time to work on this, I hate wiring so it will definitely take some time. Wont really be able to get any good before shots since a bulb burnt out...
