Rangerluc's SAS. OFFICIAL THREAD

figure i would start an official build thread.
ok so im using a d44 out of a 71 bronco, its completley re-built from hub to hub with cromolly 31 splie shafts and an aussie locker. im using my 8.8 for the rear and thats got a lock right locker in it. running 36/12.5/15 super swamper tsl radials. i got 5" lift springs from marlin crawler and i am using chevy 63" rear leafs. i got a toyota steering box and my shaft is from an early toyota pickup, just had to lengthen it and it works perfectly. and im waiting on my new pitman arm that is just a tit flatter and wont have that joint in it because im using hiems. high steer on the pass. side, and once i get the money i will buy ram assist. on to the pics, this is how she is sitting right now. the front is all done except for tie rod and drag link. then i will start the rear this coming sunday. let me know what you think. sorry for the crappy quality of the pics, there off my camera phone

thanks guys! zack-i plan on driving it hopefully in 2 weeks. and then i need to save up a couple more bucks for my new manual t-case and ill just have a front driveshaft built.
evan-yes, i cut the shaft in half and extended it with dom tubing and welded her back together. you cant really see cuz of the ****ty pics but it has a slip yoke on the shaft so it has room to move in and out. i guess that doesnt explain it that well lol so ill snap some more pics of it this weekend when i work on her

you may say that lol. but i worked all summer, 50 hour weeks and still am coming up a little short on cash. i make 11/hour cash so this is pretty damn expensive. i didnt realize how much it was gunna cost me lmao but its sooooooooooooooooooo worth it!!

and kind of an update-i leave for basic training for the air force in a few weeks, im going pararescue. so while im gone i have a shortened dana60 for the rear lined up with a guy. its just the housing so hes going to put 35 spline shafts in it and do disc brakes. and ill either put an aussie locker or maybe a selectable. idk yet

I love the height you are running. I want that for sure when I do mine. Not too tall. Probably on 35s though for me.

You officially need to update your sig :)

Nice, my truck looks exactly the same as yours, color and model and blah blah.

Did you have any guides on how to build the steering? I want to SAS this spring and am thinking of using a D30 from a Cherokee. Although I'd of course prefer an EBronco D44. How much was the original cost of your axle and why the heck did you convert it from coils to leafs? From other peoples past experience springs are very easy to set up on the EB D44 swap to Ranger.

time wise it was cheaper and easier to set up leafs. im building my truck in stages. it went from stock, to a/ts with locker, then to SAS with dual lockers, now the next phase is 3 and 4 link coilover suspension
and ya ur not gunna want a d30.

Yah if I can score the proper D44 I will go that route but the D30 will do what I need. I don't really offroad my truck, more interested in the look (as lame as that sounds). I'm looking for an DB D44..

I just don't like the IFS, it's feeling unreliable. My town in Alaska doesn't have anywhere to offroad( I live between a mountain and the ocean). But I'll look more into finding a D44. I'm not sure which ones other than the EB are good to go with an SAS

you can get a 44 out of a jeep cherokee as well
