Which window tint VLT rating?
Taking my truck to the friendly dealership to have front transmission leak fixed that's been leaking since the day I bought it and I noticed they do window tint specials, but not sure on what tint level would look best on Vista Blue. Don't want too dark - for me "too dark" = the privacy glass tint that came on my 2000 F-150 supercab. Don't want too light of tint either. I'm guessing 35% or 50% VHT, but wanted to get some opinions please. BTW, OKLA state law requires at least 25% VHT on sides/rear glass. Thanks.

Factory tint was too dark?!
I guess if you want legal, get the darkest legal. Factory is around 18%.
I would not go any lighter than 30-35%. I have 30% on the front two windows of the Jetta because my wife didn't want to have a hard time seeing out at night. Any lighter is pretty much pointless imo.

Here is the Jetta. Driver and passenger is 30%, everything in back is 10%.
Very easy to see out of at night.
The pictures themselves are a little dark but you get the idea. You don't notice much difference in the two front windows when looking out. It's not dark at all.

I have 35 in the front of my truck and you can kinda see in it durning the day, not enough to tell who's in my truck. At night or if its a dull day you cant see in at all.
My drivers side's starting to form little bubbles and peeling at the very bottom, do you guys use heat guns when applying? what tricks do you use?
I use a squgee with light dish soap & water

Not the "factory" front side windows, but the optional privacy tint on the rear glass and the rear side vent windows looked really dark from the outside on my F150.
All I know about tint VLT is that "limo" tint is 5% and OKLA won't allow darker than 25% and I was guessing that the factory was close to 25% on my F150.
My '08 regular cab Ranger side/rear glass came factory with tint (no film) so any film I have added will be slightly darker when installed. I'm thinking 25% on the back glass and 35%-50% on the sides.

It is a fun car. There are a ton of things I would like to do, but my wife drives it, and since I'm the only one who puts any money into the vehicles, I don't see doing much to it for now.
If I drove it more, it would get an intake, cams (maybe), chip, better motor mounts, short shift linkage, coilovers, stainless brake lines, different wheels, new black headlights, black badgeless grill, 'angry' boser hood... Then later on maybe a VF stage 2 supercharger/intercooler for 305 HP at 7psi and race clutch. Though even with the stock 200hp traction is an issue in first and sometimes second gears, especially coming hard out of a corner.
But then who's going to pay for stuff on my truck?! lol.
BlutoBodine,
25% on the back on 35% on the front wouldn't be too bad. 25% film on the stock windows will be slightly lighter than the factory privacy glass.
I'm telling you though, I wouldn't go any lighter than 30-35% up front. I've seen a lot of people go with 40-50 and they almost always regret it.
The 30% on the Jetta is not as dark as it looks in the pictures.

I've decided to take the darker is better advice from everyone and will have 25% done on all the glass - thanks for the advice.
And I removed my custom pinstripes just for the heck of it.

Most places will tint as dark as you want, atleast that's how shops were in Oregon.
18% is not too bad. I had one of my wife's cars tinted with 18% all around once. It's similar to factory tint, you might find the fronts a little dark.
I've run 13% and 15% on the front and I don't mind, but I wouldn't want it any darker up there.
Wait, 9 hours ago... You should be posting pictures by now!?

Still waiting for the torque converter to come in sometime today. That was the real reason for truck being at the dealership - truck only has 11,000 miles but transmission has had a very small tranny leak since I got the truck. Just having the tint done while it's in. I'll post up some photos when it's finished and washed.
