Wheels for a 2wd 89 ranger

Hello all. I searched for a while trying to find an answer. I picked up an 89 ranger 2wd. I’m going to be dropping it, and wanted some wheels that weren’t the mustang GT replicas. I picked up some Motegi spokes but found out the hub bore was too small. Even the old factory wheels from my Cherokee XJ are too small.

My question is are any of y’all running some non off-road styled wheels? Maybe like the newer mustang or bmw mesh style? I would love to see pictures.

I may just get some spacers to clear the hubs.

People often get confused on wheel diameter vs tire diameter
Tire diameter is what you need to watch so tires don't rub fenders when turning
Wheel/rim diameter is for brake clearance, anything above a 14" wheel will be fine

Ranger stock tire diameter was 25" to 26" in 2wd 1989, 4wd went to 29"
You can get a 26" diameter tire for a 20" wheel, or a 26" diameter tire for a 14" wheel
Just has more or less sidewall profile

Thank you for those links I'll check them out.

My issue though is the hub bore. I don't have a caliper here, but the front hubs seem super long and wide. I can't actually get the down to the rotor, or even get the lug studs through the holes. Everything I've read says they are 70.3mm which the cherokee should have a center bore of 71.5mm.

Just to try to make this clear the wheels hit just past the dust cover and wouldn't go past.

Now I do have to replace the calipers and rotors, so if I could do a knuckle swap to something that would be better suited to aftermarket wheels I'm down. I'll be swapping to the 8.8 out of a sport trac for disc brakes and underslung springs.

I'll see if I can't get a measurement and pictures of everything here soon.

Alright measured. the circumference of the thickest part is 8.25" making the diameter 2 5/8" or 66.675mm.

I think it's the length that makes the problem. it's right around 2 7/8" from dust cap to the face.

A machine shop can can drill out the center bores on the wheels if you want to use those wheels

I don't think any Rangers were hub-centric, they were all lug-centric, meaning the hub size didn't center the wheel, the lugs have tapered ends so the lugs centered the wheel
Some cars/trucks did/do use hub-centric wheels
