Tail Light Compatibility?

Tail Light Compatibility?
Which tail lights are compatible with what years trucks?
I've seen the OEM '06 tail lights (3 bulbs) and OEM '98 tail lights (3 bulbs) that I like better than my OEM '96 xlt tails & I was wondering if the 98 or 06 lights would drop in without any mods.
I want to keep my 3 bulb setup as I've already tapped into both sides for a project I've been working on.
Would 98 or 06 tails work? I know I'd need to re-route the bulbs to the correct position, but would there be any other mod necessary?
Thanks

.....and as for the shape, 93-08 are all the same. Ford never changed the dimensions. Some say they had to shave parts down to install them on a step side (which has very little room in there). Personally I haven't had any issues, but sometimes eBay lights aren't OEM.

Cool.
None of the images I've seen are detailed enough to see the sockets through the front side & none have any shots of the back side.
I was wondering about the 3rd cavity...if it was just a reflector or a cavity like the brake & reverse bulbs have.
The 00 lights seem to have a 3d look to them as opposed to my 96 lights that are smooth.
