Tail Light Compatibility?

Which tail lights are compatible with what years trucks?

I've seen the OEM '06 tail lights (3 bulbs) and OEM '98 tail lights (3 bulbs) that I like better than my OEM '96 xlt tails & I was wondering if the 98 or 06 lights would drop in without any mods.

I want to keep my 3 bulb setup as I've already tapped into both sides for a project I've been working on.

Would 98 or 06 tails work? I know I'd need to re-route the bulbs to the correct position, but would there be any other mod necessary?

Thanks

1993-1999 are direct swap there 3 bulb...

2000-2008 are direct swap because there 2 bulb... 06+ comes 2 bulb there is people that convert the lower reflector part to hold a bulb..

.....and as for the shape, 93-08 are all the same. Ford never changed the dimensions. Some say they had to shave parts down to install them on a step side (which has very little room in there). Personally I haven't had any issues, but sometimes eBay lights aren't OEM.

Thanks guys.

The 06 tails I've seen pictures of unfortunately didn't show the back side.
I guessed that the lower reflector area was for the turn light.
That shouldn't be anything a dremel & xacto knife couldn't handle.

Why are the 06 tails almost double the $$$ of the 98's??

Because they're newer. Where are you looking at getting them from?

I'm diggin' the 2000 tails now. All red w/ backup on the bottom.

Does anyone have some pictures of the back side of a set of OEM '00 tail lights?

I might get a set of OEM style 2000 tails if it won't be too difficult to add the 3rd bulb socket.

Cool.
None of the images I've seen are detailed enough to see the sockets through the front side & none have any shots of the back side.

I was wondering about the 3rd cavity...if it was just a reflector or a cavity like the brake & reverse bulbs have.

The 00 lights seem to have a 3d look to them as opposed to my 96 lights that are smooth.
