98-00 Grill Mod (with pics)

My Ranger is a 1999 XLT 2wd standard cab. The plan is to update the front end with a color keyed stock grill that has been modded. I started by cutting all the crossbars out of the grill. I used a mini hacksaw and a dremel tool for clean up.

Now the ugly crossbars and Ford emblem are out of the way I begin smoothing the edges. The dremel and a file were used to clean up the rough edges. After I was satisfied with the smoothness, I started prepping for paint. I used an 80 and 120 grit sandpaper to scuff the entire chrome plastic grill.

I placed the grill back in to see how it looks. Now it will be sent off for paint with some other things. Powerdome hood, Edge valance, and street scene mirrows will all get painted to match the factory platinum gray (RC) paint code.

In a couple weeks everything should be back from paint and ready for the next show, except the interior.

Thats pretty cool looking, how much time did you spend on cleaning up with the dremel?

Oh I never looked at the clock, I can estimate for you. I have maybe 3 hours of labor total into it. Close to two hours in smoothing and clean up rough edges. It had to be nearly perfect. The paint shop can handle the rest. Thanks guys.

Got the powerdome hood on for a look before sending it to paint. The new Edge bumper and valance and sitting on the snug top.

Thanks guys. Hopefully it will all be back together by this weekend. The whole front end is off getting paint (color keyed) except the headlights and fenders. I will post after shots when it is back together.

I like it a lot. Looks similar to where I'm going with my front end (just colormatched the grill last weekend), but I'm keeping the stock hood, and lifting the truck.

Do you have any pictures of the color matched grill on it? I would like to see it, I like those 4x4 grills too.

I clicky and me likey the matching paint.

Well I got everything off the front that will be freshly painted come Tuesday. The painter had some personal problems to deal with. I am in no hurry, just a little anxious to see how it will look. I had to start it up today to jack it up, and the fuel filter started leaking on it. If it aint one thing its another.

Lets tear down!

My painter got on that crystal meth and left work for about a week. He came back and got my front end painted and buffed. Paint code RC platinum gray.

Got the powerdome on but not adjusted yet. He painted both sides, the under side was red.

Everything installed minus my Ford logo, I lost it. lol The bumper is still loose.

I had to lay it out and take a look, tomorrow I will tweak and dail everything in. I got my SS side mirrors color keyed too. Just like Casper. haha I copied him, thanks to him for the ideas.
