What gears to change to?? 4.0 4x4 - bigger tires

I have a 4.0 SOHC 4x4. I put larger tires on it (265-75 ...aka 31's). And since, my car is pretty sluggish. I want to change the gears? I'm almost positive I have 3.73.

Which is better?

-3.93
-4.10

Positives or negatives about both. Has anybody changed their gears with a 4.0L? I would like to still cruise at 80 mph, without reving at 4000 RPM's.

Any Comments???

mine came stock with 4.10's. I have 33x12.5's on it, lost some mpg and power, but works fine. I can do 80 at about 3400 rpm's

I too have 4.10's and 33's. Can't go wrong with them. Loved em when I had my small stock tires as well and had no problems on the highway.

will 4.56s hurt performance or gas mileage with 33s?

youll loose a lil gas mileage becauase youll be running higher rpms in each gear. youll have a good bit of low end accel though. which is good for offroad. also, will save you from regearing if you go with 35s later. 35s and 456s are sorts ideal for a ranger.

4.0 and 4x4 is common to have 3.73's the 3.0 and 4x4 almost always have 4.10's. The 4.0 has plenty of power to turn stock or even bigger tires with the 4x4 the 3.0 on the other hand is only slightly better than a flintstones car if it were to have 3.73 and 4x4.
