Which rear diff fluid?

i noticed my rear pinion seal is starting to leak within the last few days because i changed the oil 2 days ago and nothing was wrong. I cant get it looked at until tomorrow but i am paranoid something might happen and what coulda been an easy cheap fix will end up being really expensive. Basically what type of fluid should i put in the rear end to top it up? and is the fill hole the plug that uses i think a 1/2" drive ratchet? How far do i fill it?

Everything is in your owners manual. 80W-90. If you have a L/S then you need a bottle of friction modifier from Ford.

To check if you have a L/S or not look at the chart:

If your getting it looked at tm i'd just put 80-90 in it and yes it is the plug that takes a 1/2 rachet and you fill it till it comes out of the hole.

Glad I found this thread, so since I have an L/S can you get the friction modifier stuff somewhere other than thedealership? I need to change my pinion seal. the truck didn't come with the owners manual when I bought it (weird I know) so 80w is good or should I get something thicker or whatever.

You can run Royal Purple or similar since it has a friction modifier mixed in. Pep boys or Autozone sells friction modifier but I like getting it from Ford because the size of the bottle is the required amount. Also it only like $5. Don't leave it in your truck for long since it will stink it up.
