Reaing numbers off pinion

New ring / pinion Motive Gear brand, need help with the pinion numbers where should the decimal be. The white bits are packing foam.

There is no decimal on the pinion that one has 10 teeth.

Then you count the number of teeth on the ring gear, Let's say it's 41

Then you divide 41 by 10 and you get 4.1 which would be 4.10:1 gear ratio.

But you can't just mix and match ring and pinon gears, they are matched set.

1. The ratio as purchased is known, what I don't know by the numbers scribed onto the end of the pinion is what shims are recommended for proper pinion depth during installation. Never rely on information gleaned from someone else's failed work.

I'm not a big fan of wrecking yard parts.

2. Gear cutting line mfg crown and pinion gears package randomly from the line, the installed set requires a breaking in procedure to mate the surfaces. Just like rebuilding an engine the piston rings require break in.

With this gear set 41 by 10 and you get 4.1 which would be 4.10:1 gear ratio. How many revolutions must the pinion gear make before two painted teeth meet again.

Message from Motive Gear, the numbers scribed onto the end of my pinion gear indicate the depth is to be set at 2.323” for the ring gear that shipped with it, it was suggested that I begin with shims .0026" or .0028,
