If I may start off with I am far from a mechanic / weekend mechanic so I may not use the right terms here... I recently took my truck in for an oil leak, they claimed to have found it and stressed it was the valve cover gasket that was leaking. Pay for the repairs get home not even 5 miles away look underneath and already see more oil in the same spot. I feel like its my fault for not pushing to talk to the mechanic and showing exactly what I was talking about. Since I could see the fresh oil I assumed they would see what I was talking about. I dont doubt the gasket could have been leaking but unsure how they did not notice this.
From the picture, can anyone share some thoughts / suggest as to what they think is causing this and what I should tell the shop? Of could this be something I could fix myself? Thanks in advance for the time.
To be honest, it looks like that leak could be coming from your rear main. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but if it's oil that comes out from between the engine and transmission, that's a likely culprit.
Yes, oil from bell housing holes is Rear Main seal, it will get worse, so keep an eye on oil level
Transmission needs to come off to repair, the seal is cheap, getting to it is expensive
Valve cover gasket was for sure leaking, because they ALL LEAK, lol, eventually
