Welcome to the forum

Assume 4.0l engine from your name, and automatic since it has an OD OFF light
But what YEAR Ranger?

In any case the code is P0715 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
Turbine shaft speed(TSS) sensor, it is an internal sensor, not the speed sensor on the outside, requires disassembly to replace if its not a bad wire in Valve body area

Seen here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...86-jpg.261187/
At 5:00 position
Picture is of the front of transmission with bell housing and internal parts remove to get to TSS location
It has 2 wires that run thru the housing and into the valve body area, and then to the 16 pin connector on the drivers side of transmission
Usually not the wires, TSS sensors do fail
This would apply to 1995 thru 2011 Rangers

If you unplug the 16 pin connector on drivers side of transmission you can test the OHMs of the TSS sensor, average of 94ohms is spec

Diagram here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...tss-jpg.83299/

Put ohm meter on TSS sig and TSS return pins

More supporting info:

P0715
Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction - Automatic Transmission Possible Causes Setting Conditions
  • TSS has failed
  • TSS connector is damaged (check pins for damage, and for moisture)
  • TSS signal circuit is open, shorted to ground or shorted to voltage
  • PCM has failed
What sets this code off? - vehicle driven at a speed of more than 1 mph, and the PCM detected the TSS signal was too low or that the TSS signal was missing. The turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor, a magnetic pickup device, sends a signal to the PCM that indicates the TSS speed. The TSS is mounted externally on the case. The PCM uses the TSS signal to help determine appropriate operating pressure and TCC operation.

Maybe you can help I put 99 Trans in my 03
I believe 04 has a external tss above shift lever and turns out 99 has no place for sensor. From what i read can I hook into 16 pin with my 2 wire connector for external sensor. Have read post for yrs first problem i have posted.

2001-2011 automatics have an added external ISS(intermediate shaft speed) sensors above shift arm, there is no equivalent sensor on 1995-2000 automatics
TSS sensor is internal on all years

Just seen this it answers my last post. Somewhere I seen a diagram where it was labeled TSS. Knowing there is no equivalent answers the wiring. You just put this one to bed. Much appreciated.
