New to the ranger scene and need help

I'm in the process of buying a 2000 ranger and the guy said the 4x4 unit is not turning on the 4x4. he bought some after market lockers for it, but didnt install them. What do I have to do to make this 4x4 work for me. Change the box?

If you do a search, there is a fairly common problem of people needing to take off and clean the transfer case shift motor. Maybe one of the 4x4 guys will be able to chime in here with some more information but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Most of the time, thats the case (bad shift motor), but since this truck is new to you, none of us can say for sure thats what it is....

Do 2000's have disconnect hubs in the front or autohubs? The vacuum disconnect hubs can be the problem if the transfercase is working. I can't remember what the setup is in 2000.
