Low Range doesn't work?

Hey guys,

Had my truck for a few weeks now, first time I used my 4x4 was yesterday. Unfortunately it's AUTOMATIC 4x4, which I've read have LOTS of problems. I'm thinking about buying a kit or seeing if my mechanic can get some used manual hubs from the salvage yard.

Anyway, knock on wood the autoschmatic 4x4 works okay, but when I hit the 'Low Range' push-button the light doesn't come on and I cannot notice any accompanying clicking sounds (should there normally be one).

1. Does Low Range only work in gears besides over(D)rive? Because I was in (D) when I was trying use 4x4 and seeing if my Low Range would work or not.

2. If the answer to #1 is 'no' and Low Range should work in any gear (including overdrive), is it possible it could be linked to the notorious automatic 4x4 or not?

As always, thanks in advance.

Typically you need to be stopped In neutral with your foot on the brake.

What he said^. Try (at a complete stop) putting it in neutral, foot on the brake, and push the button. I know it's like that in my dad's truck, and even in my manual I have to be in neutral.
