Long Shift Delay ( Park to D or R)

As the title says my 07' ranger( with 60000mi) has a sort of long delay when shifting from park to drive or reverse. it take a good few seconds to go into drive. is this normal with these trucks? seems worse when colder but still longer delay then any other vehicle i've had. any one elses ranger like this??

Common design flaw, also gets worse when there is internal leakage of the valve body.

If you are low on fluid usually you will notice issues going into 3rd under moderate throttle.
