Infamous slave cylinder?

My truck has this weird thing with 1st gear where sometimes it just doesn't want to go into gear. It doesn't seem to do it in any other gear. Even if I have the truck at a complete stop with the clutch fully depressed, it doesn't want to go into gear. It doesn't do it all of the time, only sometimes. Could this be the slave cylinder or is it something else?

Mine has been doing it for a long time. I don't think its a big deal, just one of the quirks of our transmissions...

Yeah, I think it is the trans, not the clutch. Mine's done it since I got the truck. Having my clutch/slave cylinder changed out at 12k has absoloutely no effect on this. I find if I yank back and punch it into second it goes forward into first effortlessly after that. I always figured it was a synchro/gear alignment thing or something. .. I wonder if double clutching would clear it. I'll have to try that sometime.

It's what pushes the clutch away from the flywheel when you depress the clutch.

Yeah you're talking like when it's in neutral and you try to push it into first, right? They sometimes don't want to go in on the first try. I heard Ford did this to keep people from racing Rangers? I don't know what exactly the reason was, but they all do this. When it doesn't want to go into any gear at all, THAT's when you need a new slave cylinder.
