going from Torsen LS to Aussie locker questions
#26
i personally feel that an L/S like a detroit true trac (vary similar to the torsen) is ideal for the fort. in the snow you still feel the wheel but its manageable. and unless your rock crawling or wheeling hard the trutrac is amazing. it will slip but only under really hard binds.
however an aussie is cheaper and easy to find

MUCH cheaper and anyone can install it since it doesn't require difficult setup or special tools.
The only LS for the front is the newly available torsen I think. Who wants 2 limited slips? Get the truck twisted up and you'd still only be turning one front and one rear.
If I had another ranger I would like a front limited slip, but only if I had a rear locker first. I considered this route for the f150, but for me I decided I would rather have an open diff/selectable locker up front. That's not an option for the ranger though.

well i went wheeling today and for the wheeling i do my torsen pretty much kicks *** on most things that i would need it to but i'm still considering the rear aussie/no slip just because i know i'll start wheeling more and i like the confidence knowing that i can get around in 2wd too. i've really been turned away from the front locker for 2 reasons. one, i drive in the snow a lot in the winter to go skiing and tow my sleds, AND i dont know if i trust the strength of my cv for that kinda thing haha.
KLC, what i might do is buy an open carrier and install kit and go have you install it and drive around on that for a while, not wheeling, until i can afford the locker again and then just lock it myself. could you get me the links or a write up for everything i would need for a rear locker like you said?
thanks.
and thanks brian, you've been a huge help.
