Dweano's Transmission Extravaganza and Questions
Hey guys. Here is some facts about my truck:
1996
4.0L
4x4 Electric Shift
had a 4r55e...which I blew after 180,000 kms (some were with 33's and 3.73's,,,which was not good, it now has 4,56s)
I recently bought a transmission which I want to swap in ...it is either a 4R55E or a 5R55E...it came off of a 4.0L 4x4 so it should bolt into mine as the bolt patterns are the same correct?
First question...if you just have the transmission...is there a way to ID them?
Second question...is there things I should replace while it is out/while things are getting taken apart? Main seal? Torque Converter seal? Etc?
Third question: After market stuff...what is worth getting? I eventually wanna get a CVB valve body...anything else? Shift kits? My old transmission used to take awhile to engage. Like two seconds from putting the level into drive or reverse before it would engage...is there something that can fix that?
Fourth question: Check this out: SportTracClub :: View topic - 5R55E Transmission Mods; Theory and Installation
Basically adding in an external cooler and a oil filter in line to get a better amount of filtration? Sounds good to me...but they talk about already having an external cooler and lines and such? I haven't looked much on my truck but I cant see anything like that. If so...where would I look at getting parts to do that? I want to make this transmission last as long as possible. I believe my new transmission had lines sticking out of it and such
Fifth Question: The thermostat bypass sounds good to me but I do not understand it? Haha
Sixth Question: yet to be formulated...I am going to start diving into this project on the weekend I just figured I would turn to the forums for some tips and tricks and knowledge and what I should get before I start taking things apart, etc. I'll post more as I start the project
Thanks guys
