Dealer VS mom and Pop Trans Rebuild?
I had to put my truck in the trans shop. Before putting it in I called around town to various shops to get different prices. I also checked them out online to look for any complaints and reviews and etc. Everyone was quoting me the same price which was 1500. Even the dealership told me 1500 but I ended up going with a mom and pop trans shop because the dealership said 1500ish which gave me the impression it would go up and the mom and pop shop told me the only way it would go over 1500 was if the transmission case was physically damaged and the whole thing had to be redone.
Basically because of all the negativity associated with going to a dealership I didn’t even go back to them to try to negotiate a lower or competitive price. I just completely blew them off and I’m just wondering at this point if they would have been any cheaper, the same, or it would have been a huge repair bill by the time it was said and done. Everyone I have talked to told me dealerships normally charge 3k or 4k to rebuild or replace a trans and that was just there way of trying to get me in the door because once they take the trans out and apart to inspect it I’m kind of stuck with having to let them finish it because its going to cost me just as much to have them put it back together whether they fix it or not.
