Auto Hard to select gear

My Ranger, from day 1 that I've owned it, has been really hard to move the shift selector. It is not the cable or the colum. It's something to do with the transmission. Has anyone else experienced this and know how to fix? I talked to a ford tech and he hasn't seen it before. He said he would have to take it apart to find out what was going on so it could be $100 all the way up to a rebuild. FYI it shifts fine.

the transmission range sensor is the problem, this is common. It is located under the truck on the side of the tranny. Couple of bolts, some cleaning and a new $68 sensor, Easy fix!

HAHA I posted this 3 years ago. Thanks for the response and, yes, that was the problem. I fixed it about 2 years ago.
