5R44E with no Drive or Reverse
I'll try to make this short. I posted a while back about putting the wrong trans in my truck because of the 5R44E not working. I decided to rebuild the 5R44E. I bought a kit on Amazon and it didn't rebuild everything, but most of it. So... The original problem was that it had no Drive or Reverse. I put the new parts in it. All new clutch and wear discs (in both clutch packs), new seals & gaskets and a handful of other stuff. The original clutch discs in the forward clutch pack were burned up pretty bad so I assumed that was the problem. Anyway... Got it all done and back in... Same problem... I can put the transmission in either 1 or 2 and it will move and then shift into Drive once I'm moving fast enough and it will bypass whatever is not functioning and keep going. If I floor it, it down shifts and pegs the tac, but doesn't grab and go. Same if I slow down enough to make a turn (down shift and revs with no grab). At a dead stop, if I put it in either Drive or Reverse (on Flat Ground) it will move a little bit, but just barely (would be faster to push it). Ready to find a good high cliff and let 'er go... Anyway... That's where I am and what I've got. Any ideas/questions?

No drive or reverse but having 1 and/or 2 usually means the forward one-way clutch(sprag clutch)
Both sprag clutches should be replaced on a rebuild, there is an OD sprag
Also the pump should be replaced, use Ford only pumps
