Welcome to the forum
The 4x4 lights on the switch and in the dash get 12volts with key on
The 4x4 shift module Grounds each bulb to light it up
So no light means you are missing the 12v or the ground
You can check fuse 17 but other things should be off as well if it was blown, it powers most of the dash instruments and lights
The 4x4 module should be behind the drivers seat, behind panel
It will have 3 connectors
There is a 5 wire connector, and on it will be a Brown/white stripe wire, and a Grey wire, next to each other(there is another brown/white wire on another connector, that ain't it, lol)
Those two wires are the grounds for the 4x4 bulbs
Brown is LOW bulbs ground
Grey is HIGH bulbs ground
You can take off the connector and turn the key on
Then use a jumper Ground wire and ground each wire to see if bulbs light up, if not then you have a wiring issue

And did you re-test shifting after you plugged the connectors back in?
If lights still are not coming on then problem is IN the 4x4 Module
There is a white button on the 4x4 module and a red LED next to it
Turn key on and press button in
If LED flashes it means module is OK
If light stays on its not OK
If no light its not OK or doesn't have power or ground, lol
This is assuming you know FOR SURE the transfer case shift motor is shifting to 4high and 4low, there are 4 contacts in the shift motor housing, these tell the 4x4 module what position the transfer case is in
So as the 4x4 module powers the shift motor it watch the contacts open and close to get to 4high setting, it stops the motor and THEN turns on the 4high lights
