4RR4E-5R55E trans questions
Just some questions i need answered.
1. What years was the 5R55E trans offered, i know from searching all 97 models(ext cab) had the option. I also know the door code is D. I also read on here somewhere, that late model 00 had the 5R55E trans standard.
2. If i have the 4R44E trans, (which ammco swap in after i cracked the case in half and burned the trans up(just looked at the build sheet), would i be-able to swap to the 5R55E trans with minimal difficulty?
Yes im contemplating a manual swap, id like to run a newer trans though if at all possible.
Any and all info you guys can give me will help greatly.
Jason

Well im considering the manual swap, i haul alot though so im on the fence with it thats why. . i use this truck for landscaping. but beyond the trans numbers would it be possible to swap either hte R1HD if i went manual or the 5R55E trans to my 4.0 ohv and if anyone knows the towing/hauling rating on the R1/R1HD please let me know.
Thanks guys.

I don't think you can run the R1HD but you can run the R1 if you're looking to do the manual tranny swap. Find a donor truck to pull everything off of it.
Started
Flywheel (will save you money from having to buy a new one, just get it machined down)
Tranny with tailhousing
Tranny x-member (If you want)
PCM from a 96 or 97 4.0 ohv manual trans truck with the same options (PW,PDL,PM, etc)
Clutch line, if you can get it off (It will save you $80 by not having to get a new one from ford)
CLUTCH master cylinder
Pedal assembly
Manual trans equipped steering column cover
(New clutch and slave cylinder)
And if you're concerned about towing, you could always re-gear the truck with the manual trans to lower your ratios for towing.
Otherside I would just say stick with the auto if you're not comfortable with the swap.

well i just want a better trans then the ****ty one that shouldnt be in here in the first place, i orginally had the 5r55e, but they put in a 4r44e, and they wont fix it cause im one month passed warranty aparently. .plus the fact that i showed up with 33s someone voided the warranty. So im on my own...guess its time to do a swap.
