35s with 4.10 gears

i know this has been discussed somwhere before but i couldnt find it. but....i want to put 35s on my 3.0. i think i have 3.73 gears in there right now. whatever it is....its slow as hell. im thinkin about just bumpin up to 4.10s. how does that sound? will it be sufficent to push the 35s? anyone ever done this before?

i have 4.10's with my 35's at the moment, i have a 4.0 though... for daily driving its not bad, truck isnt the fastest right now, but it has power.... offroading is a different story though, huge difference, it sucks.... get 4.56 or 4.88 if you plan on going in the mud. im goin 4.88 soon.

I only have 31" All Terrains and my truck shifts way before I hit 40MPH, but I do have the 4.0. Either way you need to get either 4.56 or 4.88, I'm leaning towards the 4.56

Once you figure it out here is a handy site that will do some calculations for you CALCULATORS

ya, I would say 4.56 would be the better choice when combined with your 3.0

because you have a 3.slow
get the lower ratio gears or you won't be able to get out of your own way

Why does everyone link other sites axle codes

We have one here? https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=37149

You have 4.10 gears.......with an Edge, you probably had 30" stock tires......so with a stock 4.10 gear ratio and 30" tires, you would need to get ATLEAST a 4.88 gear to get back to stock rpm's and power range..........

I came up with that gear ratio by using the following formula:

NTS/OTS x SGR = NGR (or the next lower gear, never go to the next higher gear; round up numerically means lower gear)

Terms:
NTS = New Tire Size
OTS = Old Tire Size
SGR = Stock Gear Ratio
NGR = New Gear Ratio

So, if you have 30" tires and a 4.10 gear ratio, this is how your formula would look:
35"/30" x 4.10 = 4.783 or 4.88:1

It is ALWAYS better to go to the next lower gear because of the extra weight that the larger tires will have compared to your stockers.

I have a 3.0 with 4.56 and 35's and that's what I'd recommend. Heck you can run the 3.73's with the 35's if you have an automatic -- but you'll still regret it, lol.

when i bought the truck(used) it had 265/70r16....now i have 32x11.50r15. i want to just throw some 35s under there and be able to move the things. i know it will still be slow cuz i have a 3.0 but still.....would like to keep the same as i have at least. so maybe i will go to 4.56s. that seems to be the most common and the favorite.

with your 3.0, i would say 4.88's..........i wouldn't want anything less than 4.56's for my 35's and 4.0.......

on a 3.0 unless you have other serious power mods, the 3.0 is way underpowered compared to a 4.0.....and 99.9% of guys with a 4.0 and 35's are running 4.56 gears...

the best way to do the gear math is to use the formula i posted.....

spline count doesn't matter when you order or talk about gears....
