3.0 and 4.0 2wd 5 speed transmission swap?
My transmission just blew up while moving a cross Canada, near Regina. I have a Mazda b3000 2006, 3.0l 2wd 5 speed. What other 2wd transmissions will direct swap? Please help me find this information. I have been packing and then driving with little sleep for the last week.
There is a blown 4.0 2wd 5 speed listed near by and a auto wreckers to check out. I just have no idea if the bell housing and wiring would match? Going to try to do this road side I hope. THANKS!

No, won't work even sort of
You have an M5OD-R1(M5R1) manual transmission, thats the MODEL, not what it fits, like Ranger is a model, name doesn't tell you what engine, trans or 2WD or 4WD, just a model so you know what it "looks like"
The M5R1 doesn't have a detachable bell housing so the outside case is made for each engine they came on
And this model was used from 1988 to 2011
There are 8 sub models, 10 if you count the 2 4.0l HD versions, the 2.9l version will fit 4.0l and visa versa, but different ratio gears
2.9l 2WD
2.3l/2.5l SOHC 2WD
2.3l SOHC 4WD
3.0l 2WD
3.0l 4WD
2.3l DOHC 2WD, never came in 4WD
4.0l OHV/SOHC 2WD, R1 and R1HD
4.0l OHV/SOHC 4WD, R1 and R1HD
The 2WD and 4WD are different, you can do a conversion but does require disassembly
You need an M5R1 from a 3.0l 2WD Ranger or B3000, any year from 1991 to 2008 will work
You CAN take the guts out of any M5R1 and put it in any other M5R1 because they are the same Model, but I think thats more work than you will want to do
M5R1 uses ATF, NOT gear oil, inside, yes automatic transmission fluid in a manual trans, Ford Mercon V is specified
