2002 ranger/B3000 engine
#2
Just the 2002 model year for sure as far as wiring connections
But the 1999-2008 3.0l from Ranger/B3000 would work for the engine swap, may need to change over some sensors and controls on intake to match wiring connectors
Ford doesn't publish changes in connector types by year, 2001 may have round 2 wire, 2002 square 2 wire for same sensor so same year would be a sure thing, different year ??
But the engine itself was the same from 1999 to 2008(engine of production)
The 3.0l Vulcan car engines have different head gasket, they can be used but need to change head gaskets

Hey man I was literally in your exact same situation
Engine blew on my 2002 B3000 and I did the swap with a 2004 3.0 Ranger
Had to swap parts from old engine over to make it work - valve covers and everything on top as the 04 wiring harness to the ECM is different and whatever sensors from the 04 were all different too. Picked up a kit of 3 rubber gaskets while doing this (2 valve, 1 middle)
Try and get a 02 if you want it to be plug and play. Expect extra work if you use choose any other year 1999+ 3.0
By the way the 2004 had a bit more horsepower that year which was definitely noticeable.. That was cool.. But looking back on it if I could do it again I would have got a parts truck 4.0 and swapped the engine, ECM, and transmission all at once for the extra screwing around it took me to figure out how to get the 2004 to work... But the 3.0 Was only $300 so the price was right
Good luck with it all
