1998 won't shift into low range

1998 won't shift into low range

it will shift into 4X4 high range just fine, but stopped, in neutral, brake on, clutch in........still won't shift into low range............ any ideas?................ and the kicker is....... about once out of every 50 times I try it, it does switch into low range???

my brake lights work fine, how would that keep me from switching into 4X4 low range?

If the brake lights dont work that means the brake position switch might be bad and you cant shift to low.

Next I would clean the shift motor, and double check the fuse is good for it.

Thanks Blhde! The link and info about the brake light switch being part of an interlock link, that was something I was not aware of!
